Sunset over the Causeway, Rockport, Texas, Sunday. |
Monday morning: as we left the dock on our birdwatching boat, the moon was high in the sky. |
Opposite the moon, the sun was just beginning to rise. |
Shorebirds in the mudflats. |
Kevin, the boat captain, looking over the wetlands. |
A shorebird lit by the rising sun. |
A pair of caracaras -- birds of prey. We saw beautiful birds during the five-and-a-half hour boat ride. |
A whooping crane, one of three that spent the summer here. 400 more are soon expected to migrate into the area for winter. |
Two cranes. Below the left one is an egret. Whooping cranes were almost extinct, and the flock that winters here includes the majority of those that survive. |

Fabulous cloud formations in those sunsets. And I'm so impressed with the flying bird photos. I think that's the hardest thing to capture!
