However, I did try to make a Black Forest Gateau inspired by the first episode of "The Great British Baking Show" that aired last Friday night. The laid-back vibes from the contestants on the show is so pleasant, but their creations are incredible -- they do amazing things in that big tent on PBS. I have never developed good cake-baking skills, so I was really pleased that my cake was symmetrical and not totally ugly!

The potluck broke up so we could all go to Burns Park where there are unauthorized fireworks. I hear them starting now.

That's a gorgeous cake, you should be proud! I'll bet you didn't hear any complaints. Nothing like a chocolate dessert.
The cake is beautiful! Decorating is not my strong suit. I can make tasty things but they're rarely very pretty. I love The Great British Baking show! The contestants are always so nice and I love Sue Perkins who is one of the hosts. She was on a show called Supersizers Go where they spent a week or two living in different time periods though it focused on food. It was fascinating and entertaining. If you have Hulu I highly recommend it.
