Near my house:
During one of my walks around my neighborhood, I saw a vulture eating a road-kill squirrel. |
Although they often fly overhead, they don't usually appear in the streets! |
I've been impressed by this sunflower taller than the nearby stop sign. |
At the Botanical Gardens:
After more than a year of pandemic closure, the gates are open! Behind the gates: a beautiful collection of art works, to be documented later. |
Just a touch of color for the changing season:
Late summer foods:
Duck eggs with a pearly pink shell. |
White bean & carrot salad, inspired by the blog Kitchen Riffs. |
A tray of vegetables about to be roasted. Update by request: link to comprehensive vegetable roasting: https://www.bonappetit.com/test-kitchen/how-to/article/simple-roasted-vegetables |

I saw a couple of vultures on my street the other day also. It certainly is saying fall, isn't it? Hope your week is going well Mae.
I usually don't see any vultures around where I live in Pennsylvania , but in our Florida home area they are a daily sight! Your white bean salad looks really delicious.
Aw, thanks for the link love! Isn't that a nice salad -- we really enjoy it. It's starting to feel like fall here, too. Still warm, but the quality of sunlight, particularly the change in angle, is heralding the change of seasons.
We observe the meteorological seasons, so Autumn began for us on September 1st. The signs are there: lows down into the 50s, flowers fading, leaves turning color and falling...
I love your roasted vegetable tray. I wish I knew how to peel sweet potatoes, but that never goes well for me.
The botanical gardens look greta, I would love to wander around there. What a lovely gate. We have the vultures here and they are regular visitors on our rural roads.
YES to that vegetable try about to be roasted!
Oh Mae, your post today led me to several great food blogs, just when I am in a cooking slump. I am inspired again and found a great source for green chilies. Thank you so much. I always try to read your posts, variety and interesting subjects.
I've only seen eagles in the streets here once in twenty years ago I know what an unusual sighting that was. The sunflowers look as if someone tossed a sunflower seed out of their car window. Glad things are opening up.
Are those Turkey Vultures? Big birds .... holy smokes
Poor Squirrel. Ones loss ones yum.
Do duck eggs taste different to chicken? I´ve never seen them here.
The salad looks yummy.
Would you share how you roast your veggies?
Hello,
Cool photos of the Vultures. We often see them around my neighborhood and on the streets. They are busy doing their job cleaning up. It is great to see the gardens opening to the public again. Pretty sky, love the sunflowers. The roasted veggies are my favorite, yum! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend. PS, thanks for the visit and comment on my blog.
We see turkey vultures in my part of Pennsylvania ...
Love the photo essay and pictures of signs of autumn in your area. Visiting you at Weekend Cooking and will check out the recipe for roasted veggies. Hope you get a to visit my link to Healthy Recipes and Techniques to Spice Foods with Healing Turmeric at the blog party.
Those big birds do an important job! Love your tray of veggies...yumo!
Hello:=) Those tall sunflowers impressed me the most for growing in the street, not a sight I have seen before. Good photos of the vultures, especially the shot of the one in the tree, and thanks for the colour of the season.
Impressive sunflowers!
That sunflower is huge!!
I love roasting autumn vegies like the tray that you featured here!
We had a summer dinner at the lake this weekend -- caprese salad, corn salad, BBQ chicken on the grill, blueberry pie. We were stuffed and it felt so.... so summer!
