The Celery Bog

Today in West Lafayette: a walk in the Celery Bog, which was full of wild flowers and birds.

A Lesser Yellowlegs.

Coots (from earlier this week.)

A Canada goose on its nest.

Closer look at the goose.

The ground was carpeted with flowers.

Mystery duck: probably a hybrid. Note to commenters: markings are like a wood
duck, but the shape is very different. That's why it seems to be a hybrid.

When I saw the title I thought it said "The Celery Blog." And I was confused. This is much better!

Such beautiful photos. I was amazed at the canada geese nest. It is elevated. Is that coincidence, or do they like to be elevated?

Great pics, Mae! We have a lot of Canadian geese here! Haven't seen a new crop of goslings yet though. Just yesterday I had to stop the car and wait for 6 geese to cross the road, they definitely take their time and it's well worth the wait to watch them as they cross. And even better is to watch them fly in formation, and switching leaders. Nature is pretty amazing!!!!!

I've never heard of a celery bog before, but I enjoyed the nature hike. I had NO idea Canadian geese had nests like that. They live in my neighborhood, so I will have to find their nests here.

I am at a loss, too, for why Blogger chose to change my font. When it was in preview, the font changed several times. However, when the post published, the font looked ok to me. However, the left and center alignments are a complete mystery to me as to why it happens on only certain posts or certain photos, no matter what I try. And it happens in the middle of some posts.

Hello,

It is a beautiful spot, love all the pretty wildflowers. Cute shots of the Goose on the nest and I love the Coots. Your mystery duck looks similar to the Wood Duck. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, enjoy your weekend! PS, thank you for the visit and comment.

@eileen -- yes, it has the markings of a wood duck, especially the neck, but the wrong shape, much too slender. Duck hybrids do happen.

Hello.
Wonderful birds. The mystery bird looks beautiful. Maby it is wood duck?
