Morning in Our Back Yard

We decided to take a short bike ride before breakfast Friday. The slanting sunlight was shining on the garden fence as we opened the garage to take the bikes out. As we rode around the neighborhood, we could smell breakfast. In one block, we knew someone was frying bacon and eggs. And maybe coffee and toast. In the next block, in contrast to these appealing aromas, we knew there had been a disturbed skunk sometime overnight. The air was cool and pleasant for the entire ride.

Our own breakfast, when we got home, was tomato, cottage cheese, herring, olives, and cucumber on our Mickey and Minnie plates. Kind of an Israeli breakfast.

Meanwhile, in the course of the day on Friday, among all the depressing news:

We'll wait and see. So unexpectedly cheerful! I hope it goes well for the panda and all her keepers.

Good news about the pregnant panda. What I can't figure out is why the staff were so surprised? Unless it was a phantom pregnancy or a miracle?

Good news about the panda! And I love your noticing the smells of the neighborhood. These days it's so much more pleasant to walk early.

That sounds like a wonderful breakfast to me, though I've never heard of eating any of those individual items in the morning. I like to try new things. I'd love to join you. Especially on Mickey Mouse plates.

What wonderful news about the panda. I do hope it is true. We need some good news, don't we?

Have a good week.

I’ve never been one to eat breakfast, though a bacon and egg roll for brunch is a delicious treat.

Wishing you a great reading week, and a baby Panda!

You have a lovely yard! What type of trees are along the fence? Eucalyptus? Oaks? It looks like they provide some lovely shade.

Fun to go bike riding early in the morning before the heat sets in. As far as breakfast, I'm more of a yogurt and fruit gal. I'm pretty sure I couldn't manage the olives or herring! :)

@Les -- Most of the big trees with foliage showing in the photo are some sort of maple. Michigan is too cold for any eucalyptus, so we definitely don't have them. The biggest trees along the fence are pines, but the needles are too high up to be in the photo. We also have one big elm on the other side of the yard, and a flowering plum (not fruit-bearing).

That makes sense! For some reason I thought you were in California. :)

When I walk the dog early in the morning, I can always tell which neighbors have spent the night smoking meat. It makes me hungry. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with the panda birth! Have a good week!
