Beyond Hummus and Falafel

Wednesday night with friends: Hummus, Pita, and Falafel at the Tel Aviv Pier: the most typical Israeli food choices.
Israeli food features many other dishes as well as these icons.
Israeli hotels virtually all have elaborate breakfast buffets with many types
of soft cheese, vegetables, smoked and pickled fish, pastry, and more.
This is around 1/3 of the buffet at our hotel, which is not especially extensive.
At a more formal restaurant on Tuesday night, we had a whole broiled sea bream, called Denise fish in Israel.
It was very good. For the first course, we ate a spicy ground-lamb turnover and a large salad.
Being right on the Mediterranean, Israel has many restaurants that offer a nice selection of fish.
The salad served before the broiled fish. The menu noted that the
vegetables were "sliced thick" -- that is, this is not the usual Israeli
chopped salad. The breakfast buffet does include chopped salad.
Lunch: lettuce and cucumber salad and a bottle of sparkling water.
As an extra, the restaurant served a shot glass with crushed ice and arak
(anise-flavored liqueur). This drink is a bit like Pastis.

Wow Mae, those are some impressive spreads! Every single meal looks amazing!!! I'm really in awe of that salad though. I would have to devour it in secret, lol...it may be messy or maybe it's just me, lol...

Thank you so much for sharing, Mae...

I enjoyed learning that there is more to food in Isreal than falafel. And your photos are beautiful! Thanks for letting us visit there with you.
