The Dinner Party

We invited two other couples to come to dinner at our house. We have always enjoyed having people sit around our table, eat and drink, and have a conversation. For the last couple of years, for obvious reasons, we've mostly had only small groups or we have entertained outdoors. So we had fun doing this.

Len baked two types of French bread.
Left: a mixed rye-wheat bread called Meteil, traditional in Auvergne.
Right: Fougasse, a ladder-shaped olive bread from Provence.

On the table: the Fougasse, with a bottle of olive oil to serve for dipping.

A mixed green salad with the Fougasse.

...with water and wine to drink.

Next course: turkey cutlets in sour-cream and mayonnaise, and an orange-almond salad.

Dessert: home-made chocolate chip cookies (one of the only things I know how to bake)
served with some cut-up figs and peaches.

Those plates are wonderful, and the table looks inviting. It's nice to be able to get together again when you've been missing it for so long.

Mae, there is nothing better than gathering family and friends together for a great meal. This is a beautiful spread of food-the bread, is wow. There's something about the figs and peaches that has captured my attention.

Cheers to many more gatherings. Thanks for sharing your evening with us.

What a lovely event!
I must admit to not having friends around here. We've never been invited to anyone's house, either.
I enjoyed your event!

What a delicious dinner to share with friends! I'm sure they were all delighted. I also love to cook and try new recipes, as well as travel, but as we all experienced travel has sadly been less of an indulgence the past few years due to covid concerns.

Now I am starving. Looks like it's time for me to eat. Of course, there is no way a meal I make could be as sumptuous as yours.

The table looks inviting before you even set out the food, Mae, and then it just gets better. One to three other couples is perfect in my opinion. That way you can all join in a conversation. Any bigger and more than one conversation is going on at the same time, and that never works.

Isn't it great to share food with friends. I love having people over for a meal. And we don't mind a large crowd either. The more the merrier.(That's what my Italian years have taught me)
Happy T-Day,
