Happy Bastille Day!

Celebrating all things Paris this months for Tamara's blog event Paris in July, I thought someone should mention that it's Bastille Day! Last year I posted a detailed remembrance of the two times I've spent this significant holiday in Paris, including these images from the July, 1989, issue of Paris Match.

Thank you Mae. It must have been a very different experience in Fran e this year. We watch the Tour de France and even in the regions it didn't look as festive as years gone by.

One year we had a Bastille Day party. I drew the invitations to look like guillotines and invited friends to come let their heads roll.

I'm glad you clarified the date of the newspaper images. For a minute, I went 'yikes look at all those crowds' and started counting down the minutes before the next covid lockdown!
Thankfully we have so many good memories of earlier holidays to keep us going during these times.

I´m a tad sad I was too young (14) when I visited Paris. Not the point, I know!
And now we cannot go anywhere. We live in memories. At least we have that...

My French class group went to a pub last night for Bastille day, where they had an English jazz singer who had actually lived in France when she was young and she sang Edith Piaf and Josephine Baker songs.

The French rider took fourth on Bastille Day in the Tour. I know he was hoping for first!

It would be wonderful to be in Paris for Bastille day. I have visited Paris back in the 1970s but wasn't there for any festivities.
