@Angie -- these are wild turkeys. The species ranges throughout the 48 contiguous United States and much of Mexico, except for parts of the Rocky Mountains. 100 years ago, wild turkeys were rare (having been very popular as a game bird) but they made a come-back in the mid-20th century.
These photos remind me of my grandmother's house where it was not uncommon for us to hear and see turkeys in her yard. Some were wild and some were domesticated white ones that she had raised at one time and then went native. :)

I haven't seen turkeys like this since I worked at a state park. Every year out my office window, I would watch groups of hens and chicks pass through each day feeding and sometimes taking a rest in the dirt. Quite a site.

Awww :) I've seen wild turkeys on walks in the woods, and it such a treat.
Do you have a lot of wild turkeys local? They are everywhere here in NH.
