When I was a small child, before I could read, my parents bought me a book with pictures of birds. I must have been very young, and just learning the names of many things. The birds made a big impression on me, especially the ones that I never saw at that time. Here are Len's recent photos of three of the birds I remember from the book

What beautiful birds!
Len has been very busy. You do have some beautiful birds at this time of year in North America. The families of orioles, tanagers and warblers are especially colourful. I remember that from my visits to Ontario.
Hello,
Len has taken some beautiful bird photos. The Tanager, Oriole and Bluebird are some of my favorites too. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Enjoy your day, have a happy weekend! PS, your visit and comment are always appreciated.
So pretty birds!
Why don't you link here? Are more people who love the birds!
Have a great weekend!
I have a similar story in that my parents bought me an "activity book" about birds one year when I was sick in bed for a couple of weeks - sometime in the late 1950s-early 60s. The color pictures of birds and all the interesting tidbits and ideas for birds kept me interested. Living in the suburbs of Los Angeles I rarely saw more than a house sparrow, crows, sea gulls and an occasional mockingbird.
But after moving to Indiana in 2005 and having a few bird feeders in our back yard, I am delighted with our cardinals and the other birds that pass through. Lately I have been trying to get a pair of blue jays to stay around. I heard they like peanuts in the shell so I need to order some (because I am still not going inside where people are yet). I know people find their calls annoying but it always reminds me of our road trip visits to southern Illinois and staying upstairs at my grandmothers house. Blue jays were in all the trees.
The Scarlet Tanager is a really good looking bird.
Have I ever sent you over to Pete's (now dormant) photo blog? Specifically the birds tag.

Hello. Beautiful birds. The Bluebird is my favorite. Stay safe.
All dazzling birds. One day I will see a bluebird and an oriole. Glorious. Happy weekend, Mae!
I am an avid birder & not only ohotograph them, but I too read books on birds. In fact, I'm reading one Phil Shade recommended. If you have time, stop by I'd Rather B Birdin this week & add your link to this post.
Linking opens at noon (cst)

Hi, I found you at Jeanie's blog. You've posted nice photos of birds and food. I'll be back. Aloha from Hawaii.
Dearest Mae,
You captured one of the most exotic looking birds here!
Don't have much time, need to type my MS (huge and complex manuscript...).
Hugs,
Mariette
How nice to remember how your love for the birds started. I need to think about that! I know I loved workbooks and color books when I was a girl. Love the colorful birds you've shared!
Beautifu captures of these colourful birds.
Re your question: I think the first bird was a seagull.
Such pretty colorful birds---we don't have them here but other colorful ones

Its lovely to have the time to watch the birds in our back garden as well Mae now that we are retired. I have learned so much about them, and your photos are beautiful. Thanks for sharing, Pauline
Mae those bird photos are gorgeous. And you saw a scarlet tanager too.
Those photos are amazing! We still have not been for a walk which is due to sleeping in too late.
Beautiful and colourful birds. Have a great weekend.
We studied birds in spring when I was in third grade. I didn't realize then that the birds we studied were not necessarily birds that lived year-round in our area, so I was terribly disappointed when I could not locate most of them.
I've never seen any of these birds before. Several bloggers are showing Baltimore Oriels, but all we get here are robins and blue jays. Even the cardinals have moved elsewhere. I really enjoyed seeing the photos, though because there are birds I would never see here.
