A Very Foggy Day in Holland

Early in the morning, the fog was extremely dense, and prevented us from seeing many birds.
This is sad as there are only around 8 hours of daylight here at this time of year.

Later the fog lifted enough for us to enjoy a boat at the Kinderdijk Windmills, a UNESCO heritage site.

Inside the windmill: wooden shoes waiting for Saint Nicholas, who will take the carrot and apple for his horses
and leave candy or small gifts on December 5.

This is the oldest windmill. Here’s the kitchen sink! The original construction is 500 years old.

Late in the afternoon, we visited a bird center with some very pretty garden birds on feeders.

LOVE the windmills. Love that ST Nicolas will be visiting soon, too.

I wonder whether you got new bird books for your Holland trip. I had to download an app addition in order to be able to identify birds when we were in rural France earlier in the year.

Sometimes fog can make such interesting photos. I love those of the windmills. Hugs-Erika

Kinderdijk is very close to where we stayed last year. Did you know it's the place where you can see the largest collection of windmills in one view? We walked around to look at the various styles on a lovely day so I'm sad for you it was so foggy.

Your photos bring back fond memories of my visit to Kinderdijk. I love them all but especially the reflection image, which is a stunner and the reindeer/horses shoes which we didn't see in October! Sorry the fog prevented some birding but it's Holland -- and there's plenty to see no matter what!
