This Week In Ann Arbor

Spring Progresses

Our grass was mowed for the first time this week. It reminds me of the quote from Dostoyevsky:

Though I may not believe in the order of the universe, yet I love the sticky little leaves as they open in spring. I love the blue sky, I love some people, whom one loves you know sometimes without knowing why. I love some great deeds done by men, though I’ve long ceased perhaps to have faith in them, yet from old habit one’s heart prizes them.…I love the sticky leaves in spring, the blue sky — that’s all it is. It’s not a matter of intellect or logic, it’s loving with one’s inside, with one’s stomach.” (From The Brothers Karamazof

Two Good Books, One Bad Book

Good book: reviewed earlier this week (link).

Annoying and not funny, DNF.
Why I bought it: it only cost $1.99

Latest in a long series first by Tony Hillerman, continued  by his daughter Anne.
I’ve read them all, and they are all good.

I need to take a look at your review for How Do You Live? I think.

I like that jigsaw puzzle. We have many of the same birds, but some of them are only here during our mild winters.

"I love some great deeds done by men, though I’ve long ceased perhaps to have faith in them, yet from old habit one’s heart prizes them." What a lovely quote. I completely agree with it. Perhaps it is my age. I've seen too much.

That's a serious puzzle! But a good one. I really love that quote. I couldn't agree more. It looks lovely -- happy weekend.

Aw, sucks when books just turn out annoying and not funny... I unfortunately feel that way about quite a lot of things that are supposed to be funny.

Enjoy your puzzle, I am not a puzzle friend, I am too impatient. The cheap book you bought was probably cheap because nobody wanted to buy it! Happy weekend, Valerie

That puzzle is gorgeous and I love your wood duck! I check e books from my library and get a lot of duds that I can turn right back in. I love to read but it's not worth my time to finish a book I don't enjoy!

Spring in the midwest and east is so wonderful after a long winter. I love the flowers appearing bringing their bright colors and hopfulness.

Those pictures of the flowers are so great!

I'm just starting Tony Hillerman's books. Glad to hear the series is still worth reading now that his daughter has taken over.

Lovely to have spring flowers coming up and birds showing themselves after the winter hiatus. We are heading into winter which is a good thing here, as our brisbane summer has been long and hot and humid!

Sounds like spring is blooming and books are booming in Ann Arbor!

Hello Mae :=)
Awesome puzzle, and whilst you're doing it you learn the names of the birds. It's a good idea.I love the quote, and the Wood duck.Sorry about the cookery book, but it wasn't a great loss. The other two look interesting.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
All the best
Sonjia.

Two good and one DNF isn't too bad. The spring flowers are beautiful and I love that birding puzzle! Look at that cute, colorful duck! Have a wonderful week, Mae!

I am familiar with the quote from Dostoyevsky and always wish that I was able to read it in the original language, where there is doubtless subtlety and nuance that is lost in translation.

I'm going to check the books to see if I want to read any of them. I like Jim Gaffigan and sad to see you didn't like that book.

I like that puzzle and your photos! Many years ago my dad and brother used to carve out birds like that and paint them. I still have one.

Hello, Mae
Sorry I am late visiting and commenting.
I love your pretty spring flowers. I'll have to check out the books.
The puzzle sharing the Birds of the Great Lake Region is great, I wonder if they have one for the Mid-Atlantic region. The male Wood Duck is beautiful.
Thanks so much for linking up and sharing your post.
Take care, enjoy your day and have a great week ahead.
PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
