I've never seen herons nest here (perhaps they don't), but a nearby county park has cormorant nests and egret nests. I need to visit there soon and take some photos.

Mae :=) It's true what you say about vitamin C and tropical birds, but I have an orchard full of oranges and it seems a shame not to make use of them for my birds. It is a tried and tested orange cake that the birds and squirrels have consumed for many years now, and they seem to thrive on it.The Eurasian Jay can't get enough of it. My recipe is for two cakes, and it only takes half an hour to bake, so it's easy peasy and I feel confident that my birds benefit from the orange content. I also enjoy a slice now and again. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
My apologies Mae. I just looked it up about vitamin C and you were absolutely right. I guess I'm just giving the birds something they like not need, although an extra dose won't hurt them. Forget what I said about the European Jay, as I'm a little confused today.:=)
What a nice collection of photos. Love the turtles, lazy in the sun. Reminds me of the days I worked in a state park. I would also see herons, but never did see where they nested.

We've a heron rookery nearby, but winds took them down. They built a new nest, but the 6 old ones are missed.

Today is catch up day. I have never seen a heron except in photos. You are so lucky there is a place nearby where you can see them in person.
I always smile when I see turtles. They are fun to watch. Some are not nearly as slow as we make them out to be.
You have given us a plethora of birds today and most I have never seen before.
