Blossom to Beverage: The Story of Chocolate

This weekend the museum had a special event with lectures and demos about the
history and uses of cacao, including interactive mural painting. The aroma of chocolate was everywhere! |

The artist creating the murals is Joaquin Alejandro Newman, a Yaqui Indian from Mexico. |
 |
| Kids could help paint the mural, which is deigned in Aztec style. |
 |
The display of chocolate-making, starting with the raw beans and processing them with traditional
equipment, was presented by Jose Reyes and his family, who are Mixtec. |

The chocolate demos were on the main floor, while all the exhibits are upstairs.
After looking at the people preparing cocoa beans and mole, we spent quite a lot
of time in the main parts of the museum. From above, we could see the chocolate expo. |

The American Indian Museum is one of the Smithsonian museums on the Mall in Washington,
so you can see the Capitol Building from the windows. |

I visited the Chocolate Museum in Cologne, Germany and was surprised at how much there was to see.

The American Indian and the Air and Space museums were our favorite museums when we went to DC in 2009. They are both fascinating and we spent a lot of time in both places. We also liked the architecture of the American Indian museum. I can easily see that you enjoyed this place as well. Beautiful and interesting photos - thank you, Mae.
I was about to leave a comment last night when I got very sick. Still feeling bad, but MUST be a good host.
I'm confused, which is nothing new for me. I saw a documentary about the 529 American Indian tribes in the states. It is on the Mall in DC and the final space there. There is even sound. It is a huge circle with lots of feathers and is represented by each tribe. I had not heard of the Museum. I would love to visit both. The museum sounds amazing. It was interesting to see how the chocolate is made. Now I see why the Mexican chocolate I buy is in a circle. A great and different post for T this Tuesday, dear Mae.
