 Overnight to London

Detroit last night: waiting for the overnight flight to take us to London.
Despite having expectations for a pleasant flight, our seats were uncomfortable and the food was icky.

Heading out of Heathrow Airport by taxi to our hotel in London.
If blogger and web access will allow me to do it, I’ll be posting more as our trip continues.

The National Gallery, London

This is a huge museum, and every painting in it is a masterpiece! 
Although we flew all night in challenging conditions, we slept a bit this morning,
and then spent a few hours seeing the wonderful works of art. I’m just showing a few.

In My Kitchen in July

Not Much Cooking!

New Utensils

Olive-wood servers from Turkey and a new basting brush.
The only new gadgets in my kitchen in July.

New Magnets 

I removed many magnets to make room for my new ones.

New magnets from Greece and Turkey.
You can see what I found: mainly images of birds, especially owls.
You can also see that my little plant survived my absence.

A Few Meals Before the Big Trip

Cheese toasts.

The Ship's Kitchen

“My kitchen” this July means not only the kitchen where I live in Ann Arbor, but also the kitchen of the National Geographic/Lindblad Orion where we spent 10 days while visiting Greek islands in the Mediterranean and three ancient sites in Turkey.

Just before breakfast: the waiters would bring the food from the kitchen up to the dining area on the rear deck.

The end of the trip

 

Goodbye to Greece 

Nine hours to Boston airport with a 7-hour time change.
Not bad airplane food.

Now waiting for flight back to Michigan.

Flying to Trinidad

Waiting in the Miami Airport this morning.

We flew to Miami on Wednesday and spent the night there,
in order to get a plane to Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, where we arrived at around 3:30 PM local time.

We reached the Asa Wright Nature Center in the mountainous Trinidad rain forest just as darkness was falling, and met our guide and the other three participants in our birding tour here. Birding begins at dawn tomorrow!

Salad, chips, and salsa: lunch in the garden.

Simple sandwich lunch.

French potato salad — “pommes à l’huile" — is one of our favorites.
