Who Was Edward Gorey?

My new book by Edward Gorey (1925-2000)

Selected. books by Gorey that I do not own.

A long time ago we had a friend who worked hard at being eccentric. He often succeeded. One of his habits was collecting books by Edward Gorey. If he still has them they are worth a lot of money! I was looking at Edward Gorey books in the bookstore the other day, and I bought the anthology of his works to read for old time’s sake. I remember them well (but not too well).

Do you have a somewhat strange sense of humor? These old books might be for you.

Edward Gorey was a true weirdo and I say that with approval! I like both his art and his often unsettling sense of humour.

I have that Amphigory book. I've had it for years. I think II needs to pull it off the shelf and give it another look though as it's been quite awhile since I looked at it.

Your eccentric friend sounds like a great character himself. If he kept that collection it's probably worth a nice sum by now. I'm curious which story you'll read first from the anthology, I only know The Gashlycrumb Tinies.

Some of these were considered children's books, and they were in the libraries in schools where I worked.
