Good-Bye to San Diego

Our return flight on December 27 was on time with good weather in both San Diego and Detroit.

Every day of our trip was a good day, with great meals and beautiful views of the sea and shore. We enjoyed the Safari Park (which is an extension of the zoo far outside of town where animals live in large enclosures) and also several walks near the water.

I haven’t yet written a post about a beautiful day we spent with our San Diego friends Phyllis and Ed.
In this photo— Phyllis approaching: a tunnel under the railroad tracks from the lagoon towards the ocean.

Viewed from the tram ride: rhinos behind the fence.

I love the ocean.

Last Day: Lunch at In-N-Out Burger

We couldn’t spend a week in California without eating at In-N-Out Burger!

San Diego Botanic Garden

For our last afternoon in San Diego on Thursday, we discovered that the Botanic Garden was very near the In-N-Out Burger where we had eaten lunch. The weather was bright and sunny with perfect temperatures for enjoying the greenhouse, the many types of plants, and the display of topiary sculptures covered with succulent plants. A California favorite: the Bird of Paradise flower.

Lots of Mexican Dinners

Sunset

From the balcony of our hotel room we watched the late afternoon skies almost every day.
The Pacific Ocean was always beautiful.

I visited the Dan Diego Zoo, primarily to see what at the time was my first Harpy Eagle (it eyed up a few babies and toddlers!), but I didn’t go to the Safari Park, and that’s a shame. I doubt very much that I will ever be back there again, but if I do it will be high on the list of “must do” things. I didn’t eat at an In-n-Out Burger, but I am quite sure that I will be able to eschew that pleasure once again!

What a lovely vacation! The weather is such a relief in the midst of winter weather in other parts of the country.

The trip looks perfect, Mae. I would have loved the safari park. Terrific photos in every way. And your view from the hotel looked like an extra special gift. Welcome home (again!)

What a fantastic trip! The amazing weather alone is probably reason enough to visit.

I would love a bonsai. I should put that on my wish list.

Looks like you had a great time! I love San Diego! When my husband was in the Army we stayed there a while. I loved it, and loved living in Monterey.
