A Morning in Trinidad

We left the lodge in the mountains at 6:30 AM to see some birds in the lowlands.
There were still wisps of fog, perhaps from last night’s huge downpour.
The noise of rain on the metal roof of our cottage sounded like a freight train.

Some of my Favorite Birds

The Barred Antshrike (male)

The Barred Antshrike (female)

The Rufous-Tailed Jacamar

The Trinidad Euphonia

The Pied Tyrant

The Green-Rumped Parrotlet perhaps enjoys a bit of electric current from the wires.

Black Vultures can be seen in many places, but I find them fun to watch. We saw large flocks of them today.
A Cara Cara on the roof of a cowshed. The territory where we were birding was partly agricutural.

After a few hours of birding, we returned to the lodge for lunch…

Lunch looks delicious! Birdies are too cute! Well, the vultures are not cute but I love them. It's really something when they land on the roof of your house and walk around, especially the first time when you have no idea what is happening.

When we were there the food was always terrific. There was not a single aspect of our stay there that was not a cause for great delight. The birds are fabulous too!

I don't think I'd ever want to leave that porch! And they certainly are feeding you well!

Wow Mae, it looks like you're having a wonderful birding trip. So many beautiful species. Too bad you didn't see the bird in the cave though, and the view of the hills looks gorgeous.

The small birds are so pretty. And the hummingbirds are captivating.
