| On the last day of our visit to Ecuador, we had plenty of time because our plane didn’t leave until 11:30 PM. We spent the day mostly at our hotel, but we did take a taxi to the Artisan Market around a mile from the hotel. |

Almost the first shop we saw was selling very attractive carved wood masks. After walking around for a wile, we realized that we liked them the best. We returned and bought one! |

| The finest hand-woven Panama hats are made by artisans in Ecuador. They were incorrectly named Panama hats because they were shipped through Panama in the 19th century. |

| After our visit to the market, we returned to the hotel, where we had arranged for a very late check-out. We had a pleasant lunch in the hotel cafe called the Quito Deli. They also sell sweets, coffee beans, and bottles of wine.

Oh, "love" the Darth Vader Mask.
Our Mom in her last days breathed like that through her mask and I called her that. Bro laughed his head off and Mom joinedm though she had no idea who Darth Vader is.
We could laugh even though we knew her end is near. And this one is so colorful!!!
I miss her so much. She passed 2011.

Does Panama smell of bananas? I have a book by Janosch with litteltiger and little bear who (think they) make a trip there as they found a crate that smelled of bananas and it said "Panama".

How wonderful to see that artisan market. Beautiful things! Yes, your mask is lovely. My late husband would have loved the Panama hats. He always wore one. Yes, I also knew they were made in Ecuador, but only because we have several Ecuadorian friends.

A trip to remember, I am sure, in so many ways. You would probably enjoy the biographies of Peter and Rosemary Grant. If we lived close by you could borrow both books!
