Last night this poor little bird was crying on our patio. Too little to fly. We know that it’s wrong to try to rescue wild baby birds, so we left it alone. |
This morning, on our front porch, a slightly larger fledgling was being fed berries by its mom. |
The mother and baby aren’t there any more. I hope the little guy has figured out how to fly. |
Of course we knew there was no hope for the baby on the patio. I suspect that overnight, a cat was the culprit here. |

Hello,
Cute photos of the Mama Robin with her young. It is sad the one did not survive, I wish cat owners would keep their cats indoors. Take care, enjoy your day!
There are so many predators out there.
You are wise to leave the babies alone. nature, and all...
Sad about the baby, but that´s the way it goes...
Hard not to help.
Wildlife rescue experts who spoke to our naturalist group encouraged us to put baby birds back in trees. There's no real way to escape predators, though.
I think that might be very good reason to put it into a warm box and call your local wildlife experts. It's a shame. I know you have a great heart. So don't feel criticized in any way dear! Just sharing what I feel. Live and learn. It's a heart-wrenching situation. Whatever happens. We just have to trust nature and not get discouraged. Have a beautiful day
I liked this post until that last photo. How sad, but I am sure that's not an uncommon thing.
This makes me want to cry. I got sick to my stomach when I saw this last photo.
Hello Mae,
Love the sweet Robin fledgling, they look adorable when begging for food.
I have always heard it is best to leave the baby birds alone.
I recently found a black rat snake in my bluebird house, the babies were getting ready to fledge. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
Nature has its way of taking care of them, but it's natural to feel concerned. Let's hope the little ones find their way and thrive in the wild!
Oh dear!
