Horses from Halikarnasos
On our visit to the British Museum today, we spent most of our time seeing the Parthenon Marbles and the other sculptures from around that era. All these sculptures were brought to England around 200 to 250 years ago. Here are some of the horses we saw.
“The Mausoleum at Halikarnassos, designed by the sculptor-architects Pytheos and Satyros, was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The modern word for a monumental tomb derives from the Latin form of Mausollos' name”

It's been many, many years since I've been to the British Museum. I think it's time for a return.
This looks like a really fun way to spend a day. I remember all the Elgin -pantheon marbles there, but otherwise it's been so long I don't remember too many other things. Hope you have more photos to share Mae.
The low relief sculptures on the long frieze are crisp and very appealing.
Those horses are so vibrantly alive looking, and the sphinx seems like a very jolly fellow.
Those horses are absolutely magnificent!
These are stunning photos. Thank you so much.
For all the bad things about it, the British Museum is just so astounding. I really liked A History of the World in 100 Objects, which used all items from the British Museum.
