Early spring in my neighborhood
 |
| Hellebore are always early bloomers! |
 |
| Crocuses are also very early, sometimes blooming right in the snow. |
 |
| I also found this puff ball. I guess these are also early to come up. |
Mall Walking
 |
Almost nobody here, but a handy space to walk when it’s cold and rainy. Many of the kiosks that once filled the aisles are gone. |
 |
| Like nobody here — some of the seating has been removed as well.Imagining the far away places I have been |
“Once the beating hearts of suburbia, America’s shopping malls now stand as hollowed monuments to a vanished dream.”
From faraway places I have been…
 |
| The lighthouse at Cape Horn (2017) is probably the most remote place I have visited. |
 |
| An iceberg in the Icefjord in Greenland. Also very remote! (2022) |
 |
| A fishing village at the far end of the Hong Kong territory (2000) |

You must not have snow. Lucky you! I love seeing the shoots coming up. And this long dragging out winter makes me want to eat too many sweets too, even though I'm trying not to. hugs-Erika
Hello Mae,
How was the Trader Joe Carrot Cake? It is nice to see the early Spring blooms, there is nothing here yet. It is sad to see the malls so empty. They are nice places to walk when the weather is bad. I love the lighthouse and iceberg photos. Take care, Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!
@elileen — We like the carrot cake, though the frosting is a little too sweet compared to home=made carrot cake, which should have cream cheese frosting.
It's amazing to see all sorts of plants and flowers sprouting. Beautiful photos.
I'm puzzled by the empty mall. Don't people shop in malls anymore? I know we are a bit behind here in southern Spain, but the first large mall was opened a few years ago in Granada (city) and it is very popular. Always full of people.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Lisca
@Lisca — Internet shopping is blamed for the decline in malls in the US. The photos I posted were taken in the morning before all the shops were open, though quite a few were in fact waiting for customers. One wing of this mall has been torn down, and a new building with a grocery market is being developed.
Mae these photos are stunning especially the glacier. Yes, I'm afraid the malls are a dying venture. I really dislike it because I hate trying to buy clothes on line. I have to try things on. Plus at some point places like amazon will also fold and then what? Yesterday, amazon's main IT was bombed in Bahrain and the UEA nothing is safe. Very nice that you have flowers coming up. The sweets look fabulous. Have a nice weekend.
I've had a few of those TJ things. Watch out for the butter thins. They are hard to stop devouring! Our malls are so vacant and quiet. I keep wondering when they will repurpose them.
Hello Mae,
The sweets all look yummy, I will have to try their carrot cake.
I have walked around the local mall while my hubby was having his dialysis treatment. It is sad to see empty stores and no people shopping. I finally saw our neighbors snowdrops. the first spring blooms are a treat to see. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
That iceberg is very impressive. I'd love to see one myself.
Your early spring garden is coming alive in beautiful and subtle ways! Such a lovely time of year! Of all your shared photos, though, I'll have to say the glacier is my favorite. What an amazing sight!
Hope you have a great weekend!
I stopped in the mall for the first time in a year or so, and it was bustling with activity. The Apple Store had taken over an empty space next door and it was huge. There were lots of little carts in the aisles and the food court was packed with people. I was completely surprised.
Beautiful crocus. I've never seen one of those.
The early spring photos really bring to mind a combo of spring and autumn, when we usually have mushrooms.
