Long Weekend

For the Fourth of July weekend, Elaine and Larry are visiting. We are eating delicious home-made treats and going out to eat, but no outdoor activities so far.

We ate lunch at a vegan restaurant called The Detroit Street Filling Station.
This is one of the salads. Although it was rainy we ate on the patio.

Classic Films

It has been raining a lot, which is fortunately cleaning the air from the terrible smoke plumes, but which keeps us somewhat shut in the house. So we are watching some very classic movies by director Billy Wilder. We hope for better weather on Monday and on Tuesday for the fireworks.

Billy Wilder's films are fantastic. We watched the nearly-unknown "Kiss Me, Stupid" (1964)
with Kim Novak and Dean Martin.

It's not the kind of plot you want to explain, but here's Dean Martin drinking wine from Kim Novak's shoe.

The costumes and sets are amazingly good reflections of the way things looked in the 1960s!

One of the best comedies of all time...

And we watched "Some Like it Hot" (1959)
We have seen it many times, but Elaine had not seen it.

One of our all-time favorite films. Billy Wilder is a genius.
These films have really endured as classics for over 60 years.

Hello,
We could use some more rain here, the skies have still been very hazy.
The pie and raisin bread both looks delicious. I would love the salad, yum.
I enjoy some of the old classic movies! Take care, enjoy your day and have a happy new week!

There is a throw back!
Our smoke has stopped, for now.
It's just too hot out, though.

The rain is here in new Hampshire also. It definitely puts a damper on the weekend, but you've certainly watched a couple of fun films. Some Like It Hot is one of my all time favorites. And you have lots of good food for the weekend too. Have a great 4th and T day too. hugs-Erika

This is a vegetarian/vegan dream post. I like that salad. I went to their web site and I liked the name they gave that taco salad. Len's bread looks good, too. And of course, your cappuccino looks delicious, too.

I've heard of, but never seen any of those films. I'm delighted you had a chance to enjoy them with a first time viewer of them. Thanks for sharing your movies, your incredible food, and your drink with us for T this Tuesday, dear Mae.

Your food looks delicious, Mae. The rain is certainly good for keeping the smoke at bay. I loved "Some like it hot" when I watched it many many years ago.

The food and drink look amazing! We were visiting our son and DIL (really visiting the baby!) with one of our other daughters who is vegetarian and has celiac, so we had take-out from some vegan, gluten-free restaurants, which was delicious.
Good choices for movies! I have film buffs in my family, but I wasn't one, so I've missed out on these classics, and should watch them.

Wow, that pie and bread look scrumptious. Yumm!
I don't remember any of these films although I know the actors of course. My sister and I used to have (collect) paper dolls. One of them was Kim Novak and it came in a book. We had to cut out the doll which was on the hard cover, and then all her clothes from the pages. Such fun. We still have our paper dolls somewhere on someone's attic.
Sorry I'm late. Tuesday is a busy day for me.
Belated happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
