Rain and Snow in Sunny California

On the horizon, viewing from San Diegueto Park: snow on the mountains. Not normal!
People have been asking me about the weather: it’s raining and chilly but not snowing here in San Diego.

Outside our hotel room: a rainy courtyard. We are skipping a very wet day in the field. Will go to some lectures today, do some more birding and outdoor stuff when the weather improves.

Raining on the Marina outside our hotel-room door.

We drove along some of our favorite La Jolla beaches yesterday, and watched the angry waves and a few surfers.

  1. Beautiful photos. How cool that they got an extremely rare snow while you were there.

  2. Hello,
I have heard about the snow in California, some people having fun making snowballs. The mountain look pretty with a layer of snow. The courtyard looks lush, I am sure the rain is needed there. Have a great weekend.

  3. The So Cal weather has been crazy this past few days. Even Santa Barbara has snow down to 1,000 feet.

  4. Such interesting contrasts between the tropical greenery and the snow-capped mountains... it is a very different world than the one we find here. Here's hoping that the rain doesn't get too much in the way of your bird watching adventures!

  6. My friend Joseph went home to THIS weather. I had to laugh when he said 40 F was cold, but bearable after being in KS for a week! Always plenty to do in the San Diego area and the restaurants are the BEST!!

  7. It does look damp & nippy from the pictures. Man I hope your trip sees the sun sometime!

  8. And you thought you were getting away from it all. So sorry about the rain. I thought the song went "Never rains in Southern California."
