What to do on a rainy day?

Yesterday outside our hotel: constant rain all morning. Birding looked like no fun.

After a while, we headed for the San Diego Museum of Art
and the several other museums in Balboa Park.

Ceramics with dragon images are always a favorite of ours.
We spent most of our visit in the Asian collections of the museum.

A sculpture of an Apsara from 18th century Japan.
An Apsara is a flying celestial being in the Buddhist tradition.

Diego Rivera: “The Hands of Dr. Moore.” This painting was on view in a fascinating exhibit about identity.

We had lunch in the Artifact restaurant of the Mingei International Museum.
The menu is international: this is gnocci with several garnishes and it was delicious.

  1. Lunch in that setting looks great. Sometimes I like watching movies with famous places that I've been to overseas. it brings back a lot of nostalgia for those places.

  3. What a pretty museum. We have been to San Diego and biked the harbor area about 6 years ago, which was fun. But now think we should've also seen the museum.

  6. Sorry about the rain, but it looks like you made resourceful use of your time. I loved the undulating form of the Apsara... and those gnocchi looked delicious! Here's hoping the weather improves and you are able to do more bird watching soon.
