Interesting Creatures in Arizona

A wild pig that crossed the path and went to the pond for a drink at Sweetwater Wetlands.
We enjoyed seeing a variety of wildlife, including bullfrogs (which we could hear all the time),
turtles, hummingbirds, wading birds, song birds, and a few usual and unusual mammals.

A rabbit.

A cotton rat.

A lizard, also on the path where we were walking.

Two scaled quail in a grassy field along the road as we were driving.

A coot with two chicks.

A sora rail at the Sweetwater Wetlands, Tucson. Rails are very secretive birds as they live in the reeds.

We enjoyed another long day watching birds, scenery, and other wildlife while driving towards the eastern part of the state. We are now in Portal, Arizona, in the Chiricahua Mountains near Cave Creek Canyon. I’ve picked out photos of animals as well as the birds we saw today.

  2. What incredibly amazing photos. I've never seen a coot before, dear, so that was a treat. I've never heard of a sora rail before, so I enjoyed that photo, too. Wonderful wildlife photos in and around Tucson.

  5. Wow Mae, you are seeing some interesting animals. Are you also doing more sightseeing in Tucson, other than birding and animal watching? Although bird and animal watching is really a lot of fun. Happy T day.

The coot chicks are stunning. I didn't know the chicks were this colourful.
I have never seen a wild pig. Here we have boar and swine but they look differently to this pig.

  19. Rails are elusive. I would need a guide to see them, I think.
