After our long and delayed flight from Detroit to Tucson, we hit the ground birding! The leader of the tour we are taking waited for us and one more participant who was on the same flight. We drove up to a good birding area, watched some hummingbirds and a few others, had a picnic dinner, and then looked for owls as the sun set and the very bright moon came up.
I don't know what your reaction was to the Elf Owl, but mine was predictable and obvious I suppose, "How can an owl be so small?" I saw my first one ever in Texas, but have seen them more frequently in Arizona. A charming bird to put it mildly!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you traveled to see these owls. That screech owl is beautiful and your photos are superb.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and so much fun. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Beautiful photos, Mae. You captured them very well.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous trip Mae.
ReplyDeleteWow, those are amazing photographs. Hope the rest of the tour is as successful.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a picnic and then owl hunting! That sounds like a nice way to begin the tour!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great trip. I'd like to see an Elf Owl
ReplyDeletearen't owls the best? we have tawny frogmouths here which are often confused with owls. they often sit on branches in the daytime looking like part of the branch. clever!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen owls, though I've heard them aplenty.
