Hello Mona Lisa in Paris and in my kitchen
 |
I’ll start my February wrap-up with this Mona Lisa from Evelyn’s trip to Paris. You probably know that I collect Mona Lisa objects.
|
Obviously all that’s really on my mind this morning, February 28, is the outbreak of a hot war in the Middle East. A horror show once again, probably instigated to boost the ego and deflect attention from the crimes of a monster. Now to continue with the post I had already prepared.
Mona Lisa and Other Magnets: Past and Present
 |
Mona Lisa to my refrigerator, pretty much the same as January. This month just hasn’t been very acquisitive, as you’ll see throughout this post. |

February Kitchen
 |
| Soup, stew, burgers, lamb chops. |
 |
| Fruit, pancakes, and Len’s bread. |
 |
| Note the valentine platter! |

 |
I guess I’ve had this white octagonal bowl a long time. And eating the same thing over again. But we like it! As I say, a month without much that’s new. |

Dinner from Carol’s Kitchen
 |
| African chicken stew with rice and several garnishes; salad; and fruit tarte for dessert. |

Not My Kitchen: Food at the Olympics
 |
| From a random Instagram search |
 |
| During February we watched a lot of the Milan Winter Olympic Games. |
Polar bears in the news: another thought for the month though not in the kitchen
The New York Times recently reported that in the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean the polar bears are doing well. The rapid warming of this area, which portends disaster for the planet is at least temporarily making polar bears’ lives much better, as it allows their prey to flourish in winter.
 |
| In Svalbard in 2015, we saw this polar bear from the deck of the National Geographic Explorer. |
The bear was eating a gull that it had captured. Polar bears eat any prey they can catch.
Kitchen Trouble
 |
| Trouble? Our dishwasher is misbehaving, but we are trying to discipline it. |
Sherry’s In My Kitchen blog event offers a chance to share your kitchen and see what other people have in their kitchens at the end of each month (or the beginning of the next month). Most of the participants share new kitchen gear, new food choices, and new recipes. This month, I didn’t get any new stuff, but I’ve done my best to share what’s going on in my life. I’m also sharing this with
Deb’s Sunday Salon.

It's much nicer to think of Mona, magnets and all that delicious looking food than today's news. Just when you don't think the horror movie can get worse, it does.
Yes, the "thing" in the white house wants a war, any war, anywhere, but it is also a distraction to take away from all the other low, despicable things he wants to hide. Now to the fun stuff. OMGosh your magnets are fabulous! I do like the street art as well. I really never thought about how magnets are an excellent way to have art in your home. I invite you to share this with SITAR tomorrow. I'm very impressed with the Liberty Street Author's Mural magnet. I'm going to have to start looking for "Art Magnets". Of course we know that cooking is an art as well. Give me pizza any day. LOL So much wonderful food. A nice report on the Polar bears too. Thanks for a great post and have a nice Saturday.
The food pictures always look so good. I can't believe that much pasta is being served, that is very interesting, as was the info on the polar bears. Have a great week!
The positive: Thanks for a lovely wrap-up of February; fun, interesting, delish food pics.
The not positive: To say that today's news is devastating, for all that is implied on several levels, is an understatement. 'Bon courage' to all of us, wherever we live on this planet.
Your food all looks delicious! I would love to see a Polar Bear in the wild. I love all your magnets. Have a great weekend.
I used to have a magnet collection from places that we traveled to until I got a new fridge. You have a wonderful collection. You've done some serious good eating this month starting with that fabulous looking pizza. Interesting info on the polar bear.
Yeah. I almost didn't post today, but I think it's better that we not allow the current regime to wreck the things that we love.
Love the info about food at the Olympic Village -- thanks!
My dishwasher needed some discipline last month, and luckily it's behaving lately. You have so much good food in this post. I'm not hungry, but that's a good thing because otherwise I would be. :) hugs-Erika
Lots of good things here Mae. Love the white octagonal bowl, and all the great meals. Yes the current state of the world is deeply upsetting! Have a great month.
Cheers
sherry (oh yes i got rid of all those nasty interlopers on IMK!)
I bet those Olympic athletes ate well... and so did you! Lots of deliciousness in your kitchen this month and I love the fish dish! It's definitely not a good news week but I was happy to hear about the polar bears :)
Your whole post today is good things, and that's exactly what I need to assuage my anxiety about the world.
I am fascinated with your collection of Mona Lisa magnets. I shall be on the lookout for any unique new Monas for you, especially if I ever go back to Europe.
Lots of great food!
Pizza and mandarin oranges are two of my favorites. I often think of making my own pizza, but never do. Now you've got me thinking...
Yikes. You know I am in the World Polar Bear Report for 2020 for being attacked (official term is having an encounter - but to me it was attacked) by a polar bear in Svalbard. So I got a shock seeing that pic!!
Details here if interested https://pandoraandmax.blogspot.com/2020/04/i-saw-polar-bear.html
Hmmmm... PIZZA! (I saw a Mona Lisa at the Freo Markets but mail these days is crazy and maybe you have her already - but I thought of you).
Poor Polar Bears...
Kitchen... Stove we found in the cupboard. We have a microwave.... (we´re in the cabin and eat the wonderful fruit and veggies here in Australia, so it´s no worries).
Beautiful series of photos, Amazing mural works. Foods looks good. Thanks for your post.
I also used to collect fridge magnets from places we had visited, but then cleared them all away. Now my son has started adding to them again.
I am intrigued by your comment that this war is just an ego boost for Trump (though frankly you could be talking about Bibi too!). Could it be to try and remove regime that murdered 241 American marines in Beirut in 1983, that blew up the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires in 1994 killing 85 and that for 47 years has sponsored murderous terrorist groups around the world killing thousands?
I only wrote two sentences about the war, so lots of more nuanced ideas are possible, including yours. However, I suspect Trump isn’t thinking about the events you mentioned, but about his current preoccupations.
I have lots of magnets on my fridge doors too, but mainly from countries I have travelled to. I like the Mona Lisa ones :) Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Mae. The war in the Middle East is another horror we didn't need for sure! With our daughter living in Qatar it's a worry as they can't get out due to the air space being closed.
I was never into fridge magnets till I moved to Paris and now we are slightly obsessed with them - we get one every time we go somewhere new and talk constantly about how G is going to have to put them away when we are dead.. a little morbid, I know. anyway, have a great March!
love, dreams of sourdough at http://ayearindarwin.blogspot.com
What happens to magnets when their owner dies? I’ve never given this a thought, but everyone has a refrigerator so I’m sure they will find a home! I have big boxes of the ones that don’t fit on the fridge anyway. So don’t be morbid!
Love that fabulous colourful update of Mona Lisa!
I did not know you collected Mona Lisa things. That is so cool.
Your food photos are astonishing. What a great month of good food at your house.
The war, yes, beyond belief. I fear for what may come.
