Texas: Birding Tour Wrap Up

Sunrise at the Port Arthur oil refinery, which is not far from some good birding sites.

Our guide prepares a picnic lunch on the last full day of birding.

Gymnast Bird.

Brightly painted restrooms at a National Wildlife Refuge.

Mystery creature. Maybe a Texas Bigfoot?

I don’t even know what was inside this tribute to the ancient gods.
We only went into the door that gave access to restrooms on a quick stop as we drove between birding sites.

Birder’s license plate.

  1. The photos are great! That sculpture above the "please return shopping carts" message totally looks like it's saying, "or you will be poked"!

  2. Hello Mae,
It is great to have a birding guide, they know where all the birds are hanging out. Great sightings, I love the Oriole. Pretty mural. It is nice to support the bird with a license plate. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.

  3. Ha, the "please return carts" sign is so incongruous with that sculpture! Great photos. :D

  4. I have no comment on that last photo either. And it looks like you had some lovely birding. I was going to guess that turquoise statue building was an old aquarium, but the shopping cart sign threw me. Have a wonderful weekend Mae. hugs-Erika

  5. Yes, as Nicky said, the "please return carts" sign and the ancient god cracked me up. You're in the heart of Trumpland down there The image doesn't surprise me but makes me very sad.

  9. Great post with wonderful pics and murals and then.... "örgs" on the last one!!! How long will he go on??? And with what? Tom has some posts like this one ... I ... so true, the way he speaks leaves me speechless. A "president"?!
Sorry, you kinda ruined the actual post with this for me....

  10. I can say as a Native Texan that my state is full of paradoxes. The oil refineries near the great birding spots is one of them. Kind, friendly people who also love a swaggering narcissistic man is another. Folks who adore America but who also sort-of-wish we were still our own nation.

Sightings of Bigfoot are common in East Texas. Glad you spotted him along with all the fantastic birds. Great photos, Mae.

  17. Nice sculpture, can't understand why they would want the shopping trolleys in front of it! Great bird mural. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Mae.
