In My Life

A new mural on the back wall of the PTO Thrift Shop. Shared with Monday Murals.

Dinner at Totoro Restaurant: sashimi, teriyaki salmon, chicken katsu.

Beautiful concert by pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason: works by Hayden, Chopin, Clara Schumann, Carl Nielsen.

New Bruno Chief of Police fiction: A Grave in the Woods by Martin Walker.
Historic fiction by Mexican writer Álvaro Enrigue: You Dreamed of Empires.
Especially good: more Icelandic Noir. Reykjavik by Jonasson and Jakobsdottir.

Fascinated by the Nobel Literature Prize to Han Kang announced this week.
I reviewed The Vegetarian a few years ago:

A Walk Along the River

Railroad bridge that I often photograph.

One determined kayaker!

October Sky with Pigeons

Art Fair and Farmers’ Market Downtown

“ArtoberFest” in downtown Ann Arbor October 12-13.

Halloween themes — crows and spiders on mugs and plates.

Pumpkin ceramics.

More goofy mugs for Halloween or any time. Also for Elizabeth’s Tuesday Tea.

Spooky mugs

Lots of pumpkins & gourds at the Farmers’ Market.

Autumn theme on the window of a cafe near the market.

I’ve covered so many recent events in my life that I’m sharing this as a second post for Sunday Salon!

  7. I love seeing all the gorgeous fall decorations. They delight me.

Icelandic Noir sounds remarkable. I like the idea of that setting. I read one excellent mystery set in Iceland long ago. Thanks for sharing the link to your review of The Vegetarian.

  11. That's a very colorful mural. I like it.

I enjoyed seeing the river and the kayaker.

It's great you visited the Art Fair. I missed ours this year. I haven't felt like going out. Lots of nice pottery and the mugs and cups were beautiful. Some were a bit strange, which was fun.

Loved seeing the gourds. A very nice selection.

You certainly gave us an eclectic mix of things to view, especially the mugs for T this week, dear.

  13. You had a busy and lovely looking week Mae. I'm going to head over and read your review of the Vegetarian now that it has come to my attention winning the N. prize, and it sounds interesting. Glad you liked Reyjkavik. I have that book in audible account all downloaded but other books keep getting in its way. :) I hope you not only have a nice T day but also as exciting a New week as last week was. hugs-Erika

  14. ArtoberFest sounds great! We have some art-festival here, too, but I do not feel creative since months. I just enjoy all the blogs around and I love those pumpkins!

  16. Lovely photos. I love the one with the pidgeons.
All those pumpkin and gourds, they point towards Halloween. It's not long now.
I don't know the books you mentioned but I'm going to look at the link to The Vegetarian.
    Happy T-Day,
    Lisca

  18. These photos are beautiful. The decorations are so colorful.

I haven't read that particular book yet, but I did buy the Kindle version of The Reykjavik Noir Trilogy by Lilja Sigurdardóttir for 99 cents. I plan to read it this winter!

  19. I'm glad for your review of the Han Kang novel ... I think I would like to read it ... even with all its strangeness. It's amazing she won the Nobel Prize.

  20. What lovely October days! I have what could be the same gourd picture on my post -- I think I've taken the same one every year in fact, but I never get tired of seeing them! ... I've read Reykjavik (and all the Iceland mysteries I've been able to check out) and thank you for the reminder of Bruno. I read those books regularly for quite a while a couple of years ago, but somehow lost track -- amazing food descriptions, and fun characters await my eyes -- and oh I expect there will be a mystery or two to solve as well )). ... Unsurprisingly, there's a several-month Library waiting list for The Vegetarian and I am parsimonious about buying books.
