Mother’s Day. Thinking of the mothers in my family.
Six generations of women:
|
My Great-Grandmother, in a painting by my mother. She's mending a stocking. (Date: late 1920s) |
|
My Grandmother. (Date: around 1940)
| My Mother in 1927, from a party to celebrate her high school graduation. The little plane celebrates the biggest event of that year: Lindbergh’s flight. |
. |
| A newspaper photo of me (right) and my daughter at an event about Women’s Rights in the early 1970s. Totally relevant, alas, because the rights we were fighting for back then are now being taken away once again by evil judges who were illegitimately installed in office.

Happy Mother's Day! Cute photo of your granddaughters.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and a happy new week!
I enjoyed the old photos and the new! Happy mother's day.

Happy Mother's Day! or maybe more appropriately for your post, Happy Mothers' Day :)
ReplyDeleteHappy mother's day to you also Mae. So much for all the work people did to give women equality they had never had. I'm with you about those evil judges. Why do people believe their beliefs and feelings should apply to everyone instead of respecting other people's own beliefs?
ReplyDeleteYour mother was an amazing artist. I can't believe women in America will have to fight again to legalise abortions. It's awful. Hope you had a lovely mother's day.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing the generations of the mothers in your family. Your mother was a great painter. You really don't want to get me started about the evil judges. I could write a novel on how I feel about this latest turn of events. All I will say at the moment, because I don't want to offend anyone is, at the moment, I have a choice. I can choose what to do with my body. BUT, some want to take away my choice, even if I decide to protect the rights of an unborn child. I was given a choice. They want to take away my right to choose because it's their way or the highway. Sorry for the extended diatribe.
ReplyDeleteHappy almost over Mother's Day.
What a lovely post commemorating your family history and honoring the strong Mothers and Daughters. Yet sadly today those certain politicians would like to see all of us living in an era like that of your great-grandmother. I really do think they are trying to take us back to the 19th century, with the current issue being only the tip of the iceberg. I cling to hope.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great series of pictures of mothers in your family. I like the idea and will try to gather photos of mine for next year. Your granddaughters are lovely and will have a great future, certainly. Even if the zealot judges overturn women’s rights it won’t last – too many people in the US (to 70%) are against turning women into powerless lab mice. The law will be re-instated, maybe even better, for sure.
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful old photos!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hommage. Lindbergh’s flight really did impress me. And the Women’s Rights-pic, of course.
ReplyDeleteCute last pic.
I wish for the best for your grandchildren and I earnestly hope that this dark period when rights of every kind seem to be at risk passes quickly. It is getting hard to even recognize the United States.
ReplyDeleteYou have such beautiful family treasures. That portrait is exquisite, with such mood and feeling. And your mom -- so pretty. I just love the clip from the newspaper. That's a treasure, too. Your granddaughters are so lovely. They're lucky to have a grand like you as a model for life.
ReplyDeleteWow what a splendid post! I love each photo and how you have documented the generations. Wonderful.
