On our long cab ride to the waterfront hotel, we saw a shocking number of homeless tents and campgrounds, and many beautiful murals. This photo illustrates both features of t he city — where we’ll see very little, because we are about to board the National Geographic Quest for another expedition! |
The homeless in Oregon is surmountable. There are camps like the ones you saw all over. Especially under the over passes and along the hwy. In my town it's horrible, but the HC are hidden in the bushes.

ReplyDeleteNice murals at the airport. So sad about the homeless. The first time I became aware of homeless, I was in Seattle, and the tents were sadly very similar. I hope you have another great expedition and I look forward to photos, too (hint, hint).
ReplyDeleteHave a great trip Mae.
ReplyDeleteThe airport murals are so cute. We could do with more of those in our airports.
ReplyDeleteThe tent mural is so telling.
Great finds, Mae.
Have a lovely week. :)
Homelessness is awful everywhere it seems. Enjoy your expedition.
ReplyDeleteCute murals at the airport and the one with the homeless tents.
ReplyDeleteIt's very sad the amount of homeless people seem to be growing all over the world. Enjoy your trip Mae and thanks for participating in Monday Murals.
I hope you have a wonderful expedition. We have a trip to Portland planned for Thanksgiving, but the little bird we are looking forward to seeing is the granddaughter type!
ReplyDeleteSuch a poignant mural. Such an issue right now everywhere.
ReplyDeleteenjoy your trip
ReplyDeleteCute little illustrations at the airport. Have fun on your trip!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
We live in a rich world and people are still homeless or hungry. Sad. Valerie
ReplyDeleteLots of homeless in San Francisco too, sad to see
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed your trip
Happy T Day
Jan
Enjoy your adventure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this for T this Tuesday, Mae.
ReplyDeleteGreat murals. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! Hope you have fun on your adventure! Happy T-day!
ReplyDeletealways a bright spot to see the murals! Sad about so many homeless in our country to this day- something just isn't right:( Enjoy your travels and happy belated T Day!
ReplyDeleteSuch fun murals at the airport! And the one with the tents is very telling. How sad. Of course there are homeless people everywhere, and in Europe most homeless are so by choice. Most of the time mental illness is involved. Someone down on their luck will be picked up be social services. But the rest is drug addicts, mental health patients and an occasional runaways and drop-outs. I volunteered in a homeless shelter when we lived in Bristol. It's very sad. Especially homeless women.
ReplyDeleteI like those electric (hire) bikes parked by the mural.
Sorry I'm late but as you regulars know, we are away on Tuesday, and today we had a power cut so I'm even later (It's nine pm)
A belated happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Fun airport! Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteLos Angeles has blocks of homeless tents. There the ridiculous cost of housing is a factor.
ReplyDeleteWe visited Portland about eight years ago. Such a lovely city.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time.
I like the signs at the airport - at least they're trying to keep you in good spirits. In other airports you're just lost during construction.
ReplyDeleteHomelessness is a very sad issue in this rich country.
