More Indiana Birds

Another day of birding near Lafayette, IN. A private 88-acre wildlife reserve out in the farmlands,
known as "The Burn." (For more info, see this publication of the local Audubon Society: "Lye Creek Prairie Burn."

A Greater Yellowlegs.

A Song Sparrow

A Pectoral Sandpiper.

What we are drinking at Elaine’s house:
IZZE soda, clementine flavor. First soft drink in ages!

Note about birding: playing birdsongs attracts birds, but it’s disruptive in spring when bird calls signal other birds about territory and attracting mates. In the past it was an unusual human behavior, but the iPhone has made it controversial and all too common. As a result, it’s often forbidden, as indicated on the signpost in the first  image.

  1. Silly me. When I first saw that first photo, I thought that was a shotgun, not a camera. I am SO glad it was good a good shot, one that will last a long time.

I've never heard of IZZE soft drinks, but it sounds good at least. Thanks for sharing Lye Creek Prairie Burn with us, as well as your soft drink for T this week, dear Mae.

  2. Lovely photos of the birds. Izze soda is delicious but I can't find it around here. It makes me want to find some. My favorite flavor is Black cherry.
    Happy Tea Day,

  6. Cute birds. Usually here I only see icky pigeons, but yesterday I saw a tiny, grey bird that even wasn´t afraid when I passed by! Sadly had no cam with me, other I could ask you. It wasn´t hurt or such, just not afraid! The big ravens (I love them) always flee in panic. Birds are weird ;-)
Izze soda I have never seen here.

  7. Why is the playing of birdsong banned, and why would someone do that in the first place?

  12. Looks like a beautiful place on these pictures and your other post. So glad to see they have a free place to be. Around here the cameras would have been guns to the game birds for sure! Alabama is full of hunters and bird dogs! The soda looks fun - if you are going to drink a soda it should be a fun one!

    Lovely post.

  13. I've never heard of your drink choice. Looks tempting. I've never seen any of these birds. Love your photos! My pet finches are set off by my husband's insulin pump, so it's not just electronic bird songs that can be disruptive. Happy T Tuesday!

  14. I never would have thought to play birdsong to attract birds unless you said. What a good idea!

  16. Lovely bird photos. I never heard of people playing bird calls, and to think it is so common they have to post a ban against it. Happy T Day

  18. Lovely to see these birds. I do miss our visits to the bird reserve up North where we had our caravan. We did hear lots of bird song while out the other day and spent a while trying to identify one particular bird. No binoculars or zoom camera with us as we had just ben for our Covid vacs and went for a walk on the spur of the moment. The Sandpiper looks a bit bad tempered! I have never heard of that brand of drink. Have a good week, Chrisx
