Happy New Year to all. We welcomed the New Year at home with dinner and an old movie.. First, a traditional good-luck plate of herring, a tradition that goes back to fishermen in the Baltic who were reminded of silver coins when they saw the silver skins of the fish. Then we had roast duck with rice pilaf, cherries (a very out-of-season treat), and lingonberry preserves.

ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I'll take your word for it about luck and the herring, though duck is one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately, not Bob's.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard about good luck herring before.Apparently my husbands family does prawns every new year but I don't really have a tradition as such.
