A Lost Diamond Found This Week
From the
New York Times: “To safeguard jewels that the ruling Hapsburgs had owned for centuries, [Emperor Charles I] had them transported to Switzerland. One gem in the collection was a particular prize, a 137-carat diamond admired not only for its pear shape and yellow hue but also for its illustrious history. Before the Hapsburgs … , it had been owned by the Medici family, the rulers of Florence.
According to the wishes of the last of the Hapsburgs, the diamond, along with a large collection of jewels, has been hidden in a Canadian bank vault for over 100 years. The vault was known only to two surviving members of the family, but they decided this week that it was time for the secret to be revealed.
That cabbage salad and lamb chops combo sounds delicious! A 137-carat diamond hiding for a century is amazing!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteLove the buffalo farm, they are huge beast. Your new magnet is pretty. Dinner looks delicious. Beautiful Autumn colors and the river scene is lovely. Thank you for linking up and sharing your critter link! Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thanks so much for leaving me a comment.
Lovely photos! That’s quite the story about the diamond.
ReplyDeleteI saw that article on the diamond and because I had actually read it, was the only one of our group of four to get that right in the NYT news quiz! Those buffalo are great. Isn't it nice to still have fall color?
ReplyDeleteI love how this post weaves together such a variety of delights from the living energy of buffalo and the quetzal to the quiet beauty of autumn leaves and the intrigue of a century-old diamond. It’s a reminder that curiosity and wonder can be found in every corner of life.

That is how I make my cabbage salad too. Something about cabbage and apples, yum. Love the buffalo. My good friend in MT has a buffalo ranch and when I lived over that way I was able to help on the ranch. They are the most intriguing animals.
ReplyDeleteThe buffalo herd and quetzal make me want to hop on a plane, the cabbage salad makes me hungry, and that story about the lost Hapsburg diamond? Absolutely wild! You’ve got a knack for making everyday things feel like little adventures.

ReplyDeleteI like the simple message to pay attention to one's environment. Beauty jumps off the page.
ReplyDeleteMy husband, the gemcutter, will enjoy hearing about the lost diamond. It seems sad that it was kept hidden for so many years.
ReplyDeleteI must be on the lookout for a cool bird magnet for you.
That lamb looks delicious and thanks for reminding me I have a red cabbage in the crisper I need to do something with.
