Reading and Other Adventures This Week

Richard Osman, The Impossible Fortune.
I was really looking forward to this new book about the Thursday Murder Club.
Sadly, I did not find it nearly as enjoyable as the earlier ones in the series.

Another episode of the Great British Baking Show — here are some of the participants.

Early October Treats

We have never before bought Halloween candy so early! It’s very good and might not last until
the Trick-or-Treaters get here. We will probably have to buy more. I do like Snickers bars.

Spaghetti casserole with lots of cheesy crumb topping.

On the Street

Walking through downtown… bicycle chaos and…

A mural for Sami’s Monday Murals.

Warm sunny weather is lasting into October. No frost so far.

  1. Yep, halloween everywhere and I love it. Great selection of candy. LOL My daughter gave me her recipe of spaghetti casserole and I just couldn't make it her way. This looks so darn good. You new plants are beautiful.

  2. My neighborhood is just starting to get some Halloween decorations, which really means it's Fall. I am so bummed that you didn't really enjoy the new Richard Osman book; I have so enjoyed this series!

  4. I have not been able to check out even the first Richard Osman book. It is THAT popular here. I can't even put it on hold for at least three months, I was told.

I haven't seen any Halloween decorations, but I plan to check out the neighborhood next weekend.

My favorite in that candy dish is anything Reese's or Kit Kat.

Looks like your new succulents are doing quite well.

  5. I would never dare to buy Halloween candy this early; it would never last until the end of the month. You can have all the Snickers and I'll take the peanut butter cups.

Climate change might not be so bad for all of you up north. It may send us moving up that way...Canada sure looks good right now.

  6. I'm reading the new Thursday Murder Club right now. About a 1/3 of the way through. It's good to be back with these characters again. I wonder what you didn't enjoy about it, but I guess authors are allowed to be off a bit. And it's a good thing you have some chocolate treats because as I watched this episode I craved chocolate. Perhaps you did too Mae. Happy weekend.

  7. That looks like a good Halloween combo package. I don't get it till I have to -- or at least, not open it. Rick's favorite is Snickers -- I like them too. But never seen yellow Snickers. I like Mounds best!

  8. I'm sorry The Impossible Fortune was a dissappointment. Hopefully your next read will be better! Oh yes, those Snicker bars are the best! I've not made a Spaghetti casserole but it looks delicious! You certainly have a green thumb!

  9. Hello,
I have that book on hold at the library, sorry to hear you did not enjoy the book. The casserole looks yummy. Halloween candy would not last in my house. Pretty flowers and plants. Have a great weekend.

  10. I have not bought Halloween candy and I am not likely to. We won't be handing out any this year. I hope you have a great week!

  11. @Cindy — You sound as if you really dislike Halloween. Did you have a bad experience?

  12. Have you ever had a Fast Break candy bar? They're my favorite.
The Spaghetti casserole looks so good.
Love the ghost and eyeballs :)
    Pretty flowers and plants!

  14. Whew. I thought your blog wasn't going to let me comment. But I went in the back door and here I am. It is always shocking to me how difficult these blogging sites make it for others to comment. Sigh.

I love your photos they really drew me in this week.

  17. Your spaghetti casserole looks delicious, I do love cheesy crumb topping. I was thinking of reading a book or two of the Thursday Murder Club and see how I like them, would you in general recommend them?

  18. I liked all the Thursday Murder Club books, though the last one was a bit disappointing. I liked the movie too (all-star cast).

  19. Oh, that candy! We will not be buying any, as last year we had exactly one child come for trickortreat. Halloween is busting out all around here too, and I actually had mine stuff out by mid-September. Way too early, but i just felt like doing it.

  20. Hello Mae :)
Your neighbourhood must be a fun place to be at Halloween judging by the decorations already on display, and I like the eyeballs and ghosts. We don't celebrate Halloween like you do, but there are plenty of scary costumes on sale in the stores. Schools do parades, and there are private parties.Of the trick or treat selection I also like the Snickers bars the best, and like the look of your casserole. I read your synopsis of the Luke Kemp book and it seems
    very engaging.
    All the best
    Sonjia.
