September Highlights

Around our house and in my kitchen

The neighbor had a huge old tree taken out because it was too close to her foundation.
We are now getting used to having a lot more sunshine on the side of the house,
especially in the kitchen, dining room, and in the driveway.

Nasturtiums are edible, but I’ve never tried eating one.
Our next-door neighbor has a flourishing patch of them.

New faucet for the kitchen sink. The old one leaked irreperably.
This is my main new kitchen item for Sherry’s In My Kitchen.

My sunny kitchen. In a corner on the counter,
you can see my newish water boiler.

Outside our porch: our hydrangeas are still beautiful, and our neighbor has pumpkins.

We had quite a few very good dinners during September.

We’ll soon be missing the local tomatoes!

Evelyn and Alice share some treats.

Alice showed us a favorite ice cream spot, Blank Slate Creamery, that she’s discovered in the several weeks
since she moved here to graduate school.

Evelyn spent the past weekend visiting us and also seeing Alice’s new apartment.
We had lunch at a downtown diner. Evelyn and Alice shared a masala omelet, and I had avocado toast.

Alice also had French toast with berries.

Halloween is here!

The elaborate decor on a street near us is being installed already.

We have bought and eaten some Halloween chocolates. Another new food for Sherry!

Reading for our time

Ionesco’s allegory of conformity and fascism corrupting ordinary people seems to apply very well to the moment. If you know this play, you can probably see what I mean. I plan to reread it soon.

Your new faucet looks perfect for your sunny kitchen, and it’s always satisfying to fix a leaky problem. Also, how sweet that you got to spend the weekend with Evelyn and Alice and share such a yummy diner lunch.

You have such a nice kitchen. My Nastursiums came up so late. It has been storming for the last 3 days and they have taken off in runners and blooms. I have not eaten them either. However, that ice cream looks so good. Nice post with lost of great photos and food.

You must be thrilled your granddaughter is going to graduate school near you. How exciting is that. It looks like you had a nice month, and tasty ice cream-yum!

It must be nice to have more sun and thus a brighter kitchen. Your new faucet is lovely. Oh that tomato salad looks divine and I'm sure the summer tomatoes will be missed! We are seeing Halloween decorations all around and especially the giant skeletons seem to be popular. So nice you can enjoy time with your granddaughter .

Your hydrangeas look fantastic! I need a new electric teakettle That's a really pleasing one. That's a great pic of Alice -- glad she's near you! And of course I loved all the Halloween!

I'm adding Rhinoceros to my list to read. And I would immediately scope out the best spot to have ice cream!

Love the halloween chocs! Halloween is definitely becoming a thing here in australia; I saw a huge 3 metre tall skeleton at Bunnings on the weekend (our big hardware chain). Thanks for joining in this month. Oh yes and how lovely to have your grandchild (?) nearby. Must have been a shock to have that big tree taken down! Must be the time for new electric jugs! Take care and have a fab October.

Your kitchen is very sunny and looks like such a nice spot to cook al the lovely meals! Interesting is that you plate and "serve" the food for your own meals at home with a much care as one would find in a café or restaurant. I have always felt that how we serve the food to not only ourselves but all around the table, is part of the process. Often we taste with our eyes first. Before moving to our Tiny House, for Sunday dinners with family, using my serving ware was a favorite part of the meal.

Your new tap looks snazzy and I bet you are really enjoying the extra sunlight in the kitchen. Your tomatoes look fabulous and how good are the Halloween decorations (and chocs!) I was in the US once at Halloween and I was blown away by the amazing decorations on the houses. So good!
