This is a retrospective post, looking back at our December trip.
On our birding trip to Trinidad, we spent the last two days in a remote part of the island looking for a rare bird, the piping guan. In this post I am showing a few scenes from our stay at a beautiful seaside hotel where people go to relax, to watch the turtles that breed on the beaches (but not in December), and to watch birds.
First, a mural on the local elementary school.
A hotel on the far side of the island
We stayed here, far from the populated areas of the island, because we wanted to see the very rare bird, the piping guan. This is a follow up to show the hotel. I’ve shown this image before. |
Beautiful tropical wood on the door of the hotel reception. |
More wood. |

ReplyDeleteWonderful post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful hotel and view of the beach! Wow. That's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHi there Mae, thank you for your comment at my blog, I like the mural in your photos, it's alot more creative than what I can do or not do.
ReplyDeleteah oui c'est très beau et très paisible semble-t-il
ReplyDeleteLooks like a very nice resort. Congrats on your rare bird sighting.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I meant to ask you did you see the Scarlet Ibis while you were in Trinidad? Take care, have a wonderful week!
@eileen: I skipped the day that the group saw the Scarlet Ibis. Len saw and photographed a huge flock of them!
ReplyDeleteThat hotel looks amazing -- and so do the birds!
ReplyDeleteLovely capture of the rare bird sighting, the island and the mural!
ReplyDeleteCute mural and such a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful resort and room. Lovely that you got to see the rare bird. The mural is very cute. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Mae.
ReplyDeleteAaaah ... that view from your hotel. And the bird. Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteIt's so wonderful that you have been doing a lot of travel. Looks like a beautiful beach resort. Len got great shots of thet piping guan.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your "lifer"! I am not sure I would ever leave that balcony while staying there, the view is stunning.
ReplyDelete@Judee (GlutenFree) — thanks for the comment it really is beautiful — actually the two photos of the bird in the post are my shots. Both Len and I take bird photos with a long-lens camera that zooms in closer than an iPhone.
ReplyDeleteThat mural is a nice one -- and especially the hotel. What a grand view and it looks like a wonderful area. That beach is great and I love the birds. When you mention Trinidad it reminds me of years ago when we hosted the Boy Scouts from Trinidad and Tobago. They brought their steel drums and we had a concert in the back yard!
ReplyDeleteGreat bird to see. There are so few of them one virus could wipe out the entire world population.
ReplyDeleteI bet you wish you were back there now. and it's great you saw the piping guan too. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteOhhh this place is amazing. Your room looks gorgeous. I do love the birds too.
ReplyDeleteLove the mural and the piping guan. great photos Mae.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! What a beautiful place! Looks amazingly peaceful. I never knew how many book blogger friends are bird watchers! It seems like a great reason to travel to different countries, and gets you out in nature, too.
ReplyDeleteI know novelist Jonathan Franzen is (was?) a bird watcher. There must be a lot of books written for bird watchers, now that I think of it, so you can combine pleasures!
What a beautiful place. I love the mural.
