Market stalls sell hats, trinkets, sweaters, wood carvings, embroidered dresses, and much more
In the courtyard of the market. Food vendors sell ice cream, hot dogs, and everything else you would expect. |
Almost the first shop we saw was selling very attractive carved wood masks. After walking around for a wile, we realized that we liked them the best. We returned and bought one! |
Our newest mask. |
The finest hand-woven Panama hats are made by artisans in Ecuador. They were incorrectly named Panama hats because they were shipped through Panama in the 19th century. |
And then we went home…

ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful visiting a different culture!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing all of the photos from your trip to Ecuador. I love the mask that you took home with you. The cafe is adorable. I'm glad you had a wonderful trip.
ReplyDeleteI'd have had to get a hat, but I would also have been tempted by the masks.
ReplyDeleteThe mural wall is great but I really love the masks on the pole!! #MuralMonday

DeleteOh, "love" the Darth Vader Mask.
ReplyDeleteOur Mom in her last days breathed like that through her mask and I called her that. Bro laughed his head off and Mom joinedm though she had no idea who Darth Vader is.
We could laugh even though we knew her end is near. And this one is so colorful!!!
I miss her so much. She passed 2011.
Your mask is beautiful.
Does Panama smell of bananas? I have a book by Janosch with litteltiger and little bear who (think they) make a trip there as they found a crate that smelled of bananas and it said "Panama".
See here, if you like.
What a wonderful market, I´d spend days there! Thank you for sharing!
The market looks like a fun place to explore. The mask your bought is cool. I love all the murals, beautiful art work! Having a late check out is a good idea since your flight was so late at night. Take care, enjoy your day and the week ahead.

ReplyDeleteJust for clarity: Quito is in Ecuador, quite a long way from Mexico.
DeleteHow wonderful to see that artisan market. Beautiful things! Yes, your mask is lovely. My late husband would have loved the Panama hats. He always wore one. Yes, I also knew they were made in Ecuador, but only because we have several Ecuadorian friends.
ReplyDeleteThe murals are fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
You had a truly amazing trip.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
Looks like the mall isn't the only place that has it all. The Market would be fun to stroll through. Very cool maks. Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteA trip to remember, I am sure, in so many ways. You would probably enjoy the biographies of Peter and Rosemary Grant. If we lived close by you could borrow both books!
