The Saint Louis Art Museum and the iconic statue “The Spirit of Saint Louis.”
|
|
This statue of King Louis of France, for whom Saint Louis was named, is a symbol of the city. |
|
The Missouri Botanical Gardens contain fantastic plant life and also art works. In this photo you can see some of the statues by sculptor Carl Milles, glass “onions” by Dale Chihuley, and the famous Climatron, a geodesic dome invented by Buckminster Fuller. |
|
Inside the Climatron, more Chihuly creations among the tropical plants. |
We plan to drive back from St. Louis to Michigan tomorrow, and I’ll organize more photos and write about the gardens and the museum. The purpose of our trip was to visit family, which we’ve been doing during all three days of our visit here.
Thank you, this prompted me to do a bit of research on which of the eighteen or so Louis it was named for. The ninth, fits into the history. Very interesting, the French history in the US, very significant in the revolution. Without them it might not have succeeded. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and clever artwork - and a wonderful garden, too!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're having a great trip Mae. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteThe Botanical Garden is a wonderful place, isn't it? We love going there. In the Fall they have a Japanese Festival there and it is a lot of fun. Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe Botanical Gardens look lovely! Great shot of the museum and statue!
Take care, have a wonderful day!
Have you been to the butterfly house/museum that's part of the botanical gardens? I don't know if you remember blogger Oh (she passed several years ago but was part of Write on Wednesday posts). She took me there once and it was heaven! I'll look forward to more pix!
ReplyDeleteAbout the Butterfly House at the Mo. Botanical Gardens — it’s in a totally different location than the main gardens where we visited. Some day maybe we’ll get to that location!

I simply had to see your trip to St. Louis. Loved the Art Museum. I am in awe of the Chihuley glass and the Climatron, which I have always called the Bucky Ball.
