Birding at Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge, we saw many young eagles, as well as a wide variety of other birds. |
Another young eagle -- Len's photo. |
There were herons everywhere, even on the road. |
A few white pelicans were around. |
I love kingfishers. We saw several, but they are very active and hard to capture in a photo. |
The whole refuge is very beautiful. |

This is amazing, Mae. You have the most wonderful adventures in birding. I have never seen a heron except in photos. In fact, several of these birds I've never seen in person. These are fabulous photos, dear.
ReplyDeleteThese photographs are exceptional!
ReplyDeleteWe visited two refuges in August that are located in our county, and we spent two wonderful days wandering around in them. One is the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, and the other is the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge. It was refreshing to see more birds than people.
ReplyDeleteI just read your comment about the size of the tarps. In most countries that use the metric system, instead of using a period, they use a comma. I suspect I should have done both, since it did look much larger than it really was.
ReplyDeleteWow looks like a pretty and serene place! Many birds to see. Glad you enjoyed your time and the fresh air!
ReplyDeleteHello Mae,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy visiting any of the wildlife refuges, usually there is always some species of birds and wildlife to see. You saw a nice variety from the Bald Eagles, Herons, Egrets and I love the White Pelicans. Great capture of the Kingfisher. I love the view of the refuge and barn. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a happy weekend! PS, thank you for the comment on my blog.
What a beautiful place to visit with so much wildlife.
ReplyDeleteHow neat to see the young eagles! They are hard to ID! Love your photos! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Mae! We live an hour or so from an eagle nesting ground and it is so amazing to watch them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your visit. Have a good weekend!
Beautiful photos! I love visiting wildlife refuges near us in FL, too, and use my phone to take photos. One of these days I'll get a real camera.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I think I would be MOST excited about the Kingfisher because I've never seen one of those in person before!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you showed us where this is. It looks like a place you can see some wonderful birds.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures Mae!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a fabulous spot to visit. You got some beautiful photos from your outing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I realize it's only 5 hours from my place. Adding to my birding places list
