Édouard Manet seems to have loved beer. |
Or at least loved seeing people drinking beer. |
His paintings also include other beverages. |
I'm home for a while and back to thinking about famous painters and how they depicted various subjects. Somehow my ramblings led me to Manet, and I realized how he seemed to love to paint café scenes including waitresses, waiters, and people drinking beer. These are some that I've found, which I dedicate to the weekly celebration of beverages at Elizabeth's blog.
These are all terrific examples!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see these, thank you.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Enjoyed the paintings.
ReplyDeleteHappy T wishes
Manet is a wonderful painter. I don't think I've seen these so it was a real pleasure to read this post. Have a great T day Mae and stay cool. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteLove how you connected Manet to the beer:) Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteThe details in his paintings are amazing.
ReplyDeleteTo beer - we went to get one in the real world, yipeee!
ReplyDeleteWith masks, but... it felt good!
Oh Mae, Manet is one of my favorite artists. I love how he blurred the lines of realism in his attempt to help start the Impressionist movement. He was a genius and I am thrilled you showed the paintings he created of patron drinking beer and other spirits. I think the Bar at the Follies scene was his last great work, if I'm correct (next to last painting shown above). Thanks for sharing these with us for T this Tuesday. I love seeing his art any time I visit a large museum.
ReplyDeleteFabulous paintings from Manet! Happy T Day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHe was so talented and the drinks all looks so fabulous even at 5:29 AM! I was more adventurous this week and had several really great beers. Thanks for sharing these wonderful paintings and sketches and happy T-Day, Mae.
ReplyDeleteGreat paintings Mae, I just wish I was so talented!

We're having a heatwave so most people would enjoy a glass of cold beer. Me, I'd rather have a glass of that champagne. Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteI think Manet just loved having a drink himself and frequented bars and cafes. I love the painting of the couple sitting at the table and another man standing in the distance watching longingly. Every picture tells a story.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
I enjoy cafe scenes, and he had a great eye. He could get inside the scene, couldn't he! Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteThese Manets bring a true French feel to your post. The last two have an air of sadness too! Happy T Day Hugs, Chrisx
