Up in the air with Len's new drone: a view of our local Burns Park School and the surrounding park. |
The J.W.Gibbs, Len’s drone. |
A note on the eponymous J. Willard Gibbs (1839-1903), a favorite of Len’s because of his many important discoveries. Gibbs, who obtained the first American PhD in physics, spent his career at Yale. He was “a mathematical physicist who made enormous contributions to science: he founded modern statistical mechanics, he founded chemical thermodynamics, and he invented vector analysis.” (source)

ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I love the drone shots. Makes me want one.
ReplyDeleteWhy have I not heard of this math physicist. My undergraduate degrees were in mechanical engineering and statistics. He is amazing. I'm off to learn more about Gibbs. Thank you for introducing me to him.
It looks like you two (especially Len!) are having a lot of fun! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteQuite a drone! Nice toy.
ReplyDeleteOh. Never heard of Gibbs.
It's interesting to see Ann Arbor. I have a couple of friends who either went to school there or worked at the university in earlier times, and I have never seen a photo of it, except for your posts. It looks pretty.
