There are turkeys -- lots of them! -- in Forest Park. They occasionally visit some of the neighborhoods bordering the park, I'm told. Fun pictures -- thanks.
@Angie -- these are wild turkeys. The species ranges throughout the 48 contiguous United States and much of Mexico, except for parts of the Rocky Mountains. 100 years ago, wild turkeys were rare (having been very popular as a game bird) but they made a come-back in the mid-20th century.
These photos remind me of my grandmother's house where it was not uncommon for us to hear and see turkeys in her yard. Some were wild and some were domesticated white ones that she had raised at one time and then went native. :)
Great sighting of the wild turkeys. I have seen them running off quickly, they look cute. Great captures! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great weekend. PS, thank you for the comment!
I haven't seen turkeys like this since I worked at a state park. Every year out my office window, I would watch groups of hens and chicks pass through each day feeding and sometimes taking a rest in the dirt. Quite a site.

Hard to see, which is the point of course.
ReplyDeleteThey are cute! Are they wild or belong to some farm?
