Chef's Table 2020: Barbecue

We are watching the very new Netflix season of Chef's Table. There are four episodes dedicated to various sorts of barbecue in locations throughout the world. We watched the first two episodes this morning. I suspect we'll watch two more before we go to bed. Binging!

From IMDB:
"The critically-acclaimed series returns for its latest iteration, delving into the smoky, juicy world of barbecue. Featured chefs and pitmasters include Tootsie Tomantez, Lennox Hastie, Rodney Scott, and Rosalia Chay Chuc."
Here are a few of my favorite scenes from the first two episodes. I'm not making an effort to describe just what's in these episodes, as they are similar in style and approach to every other David Gelb production that we have watched with great pleasure. And I don't think we have missed any.

Pitmaster Tootsie Tomantez at Snow's Barbecue in Texas, preparing meat with the owner of
the famous barbecue restaurant, considered the best in Texas. Tootsie at 85 years old still labors
to cook real wood-fired country barbecue every Saturday. There's much about her life as well as her food.

Lennox Hastie's special barbecue oven in Sydney, Australia.
EVERYTHING at Hastie's barbecue restaurant, called Firedoor, is cooked on the fire, and his entire method is very unsual.
He originally trained and worked at several Michelin-starred restaurants in England and Spain.
Without really planning it, we prepared for this series a couple of nights ago by having barbecue from our local takeout place, Satchel's, not far from our house. Although we have vowed to avoid buying meat, we wavered from our principles and had brisket and ribs.

  1. Once again, I know better than to visit when I haven't eaten. Even though I'm a vegetarian, there are times I would LOVE to have some smoked meat from the grill. This series looks good. I think there's one on the Food Network named Smoke or something similar. Not sure if it's the same quality, but I liked the photos you took. Would you pass the potato salad, please?

  2. I hope you enjoyed the meal! Were you craving meat? Maybe your body was feeling the effects of the lack of Vitamin B12?

  3. Meat heals! And we should consume more meat when we are getting older because our bones and muscles need animal protein! I am having some roast plus some bone marrow today. Have a great week ahead, Mae.
