Everyone needs chocolate!

We recently finished the chocolate candy supplies that we laid in earlier in the pandemic when everyone was panic buying. On amazon.com, at that time, I found my favorite York Peppermint Patties, but they are all now eaten up. We have also eaten all our Hershey bars and Snickers, and most of our Milanos. Slowly, I might add.

So I baked brownies, using up the last unsweetened chocolate in the house. They are good but a bit ooey-gooey!

Black Forest Brownies, that is brownies with cherries
in them, inspired by Green Gourmet Giraffe (link).
I followed the classic recipe and added the cherries.
All chocolates having been eaten, I searched amazon.com for chocolate baking supplies. I have a feeling that prices are going up, but I found one good deal:

The good luck part: yesterday was a pretty cool day, so the chocolate didn't melt in transit. The package of chocolate chips was just sent in an ordinary bubble-wrap mailing envelope, no temperature control, and delivered by one of the amazon trucks which seem to make several tours a day thorough our neighborhood delivering everyone's Amazon and Whole Foods orders. Summer is not a good time to order chocolate candy this way!

At any rate, many people need to avoid grocery stores, which has been an incredible boon to amazon -- but the other way to look at it is that Amazon and Whole Foods were ready for an emergency, but they just didn't know what emergency they were ready for. As a result, they made it possible for a lot of people to keep safe. Every time I see a (masked) Amazon driver I say thank you: from a distance, of course.

Maybe I will find more chocolate to buy in my next Whole Foods order -- but they are too pure to sell Snickers. Yesterday I wrote about a very serious subject, so today's post is very trivial!

  1. I didn't stock up on chocolate OR toilet paper. I think this is funny because I never order anything over the internet. I'm so glad it's available to you. My friend Scott buys a lot on Amazon, and he says if you can't find it on Amazon, you don't need it. Sorry, folks, but I need/want my chocolate Moose Tracks ice cream.

  5. Just before the world stopped, we were planning a party. I bought lots of candy, chips, and nuts, appetizers, water bottles, seltzer, etc. which are things I don't usually keep in the house because we have very little self-control. However, we were glad to have it because once the panic buying set in, it was hard to find things Glad you had your chocolate stash!

  6. Those brownies look perfect. I've run out of sugar free white chocolate and I'm sure it's imported as our local shops don't have stock.

  7. Black forest brownies sound amazing! We weren't having any issues getting hold of grocery items but the number of cases has started going up again and so people are panic buying again. Will be interesting to see what the shelves are like when we do our grocery shopping this week.

  9. I found a mother lode of reasonably priced chocolate chips at Target, to my surprise, so I loaded up and probably have enoughtill 2021. This is good because I have been making a batch of brownies every week! I use 6 ingredient espresso brownies that mix up in no time. Even though adding chocolate chips is "optional" it is never optional in my house!

  11. I'm feeling that with ice cream. Alas, no ordering ice cream for me! Not unless... no, even then. Fortunately, Rick is doing early morning grocery runs. Still... You might need to instacart the Snickers! (That's a great deal on the chocolate. We've noticed all prices going up in recent weeks. I'm not sure if it's a supply chain thing or taking advantage of a situation.)

  13. I need to lay my hands on some chocolate and bake something ooey-gooey too. I made a big batch of peanut butter cookies this morning, thanks to a new recipe from the New York Times.

  14. I love chocolates too. The only chocolate I have left in the fridge are the bitter chocolates. Hoping to stock up on chocolate and some snacks the next time I visit the supermarket.

  15. I'm glad the panic buying is over. Toilet paper is one thing, but if the global coffee shortage I see warnings about ever comes, I'm really going to panic! We keep baking chocolate and chocolate chips in the house, but I have to be careful not to open a bag for snacking or it will be gone in no time! Snickers are one of my favorites and my husband hates peanuts, so I can have them all to myself without even hiding them!

  16. Those brownies look amazing. The only chocolate I bought was dark chocolate salted covered almonds at Trader Joe's. If we had Snickers in the house, my husband would devour them!
