Preparing chicken and cauliflower for the first barbecue of the season. The cauliflower is cut into "steaks." It's also the first time we have chosen to eat meat for 3 or 4 weeks. |
In the afternoon, Len had baked kaiser rolls. |
Cauliflower and chicken on the fire. Both are seasoned with salt and Simon and Garfunkle Rub -- parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. |
Just off the grill: chicken and cauliflower, ready to eat. |
On the table: wine, chicken, lettuce salad, rolls... delicious! |

Oh, how delicious!
ReplyDeleteI hope we'll barbecue at Pentecost when the kids come home
barbecue and roll are appealing....yummy
ReplyDeleteHave a great day
Yummy! I want those chicken thighs :-)
ReplyDeleteThat looks good. We've only cooked out twice this spring -- both times, chicken. I think Rick is planning to do a tenderloin tonight, although it's looking cold and gloomy, so maybe tomorrow instead. Haven't checked the weather but hope it holds. I am so done with rain! (Hats off to the Kaiser rolls and I love the S&G seasoning!)
ReplyDeleteDid you put oil on the cauliflower? Do pieces fall into the fire? How long does it need... receipe, please!
ReplyDeleteRecipe for Iris:
ReplyDeleteCut cauliflower head into 1/2 inch slices (like fans) — reserve smaller pieces for another use.
Brush with oil and sprinkle with salt and mixed herbs.
Grill over coals for around 4 minutes or so per side, until a fork pierces easily, but not too soft.
Enjoy!.....mae
That looks delicious. I love the S&G herb mix! But no fair on those Kaiser rolls. Where did he get the yeast?
ReplyDeleteBeing vegetarian, I do not own a grill. However, we frequently have dinner with my kids who love to BBQ! I usually bring over a vegan burger for their grill- I love the idea of what you did with the cauliflower! I will try it at their house if we ever get back to visiting!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious.
ReplyDeleteMay you continue to be blessed. Have a super weekend.
ReplyDeleteno BBQs around here today Mae. it's darn cold; well for brisbane anyway. about 14C. brrrr.
ReplyDeleteQuestion from Catalyst: where did we get yeast?
ReplyDeleteAnswer: Our neighbors gave us a jar of yeast. At the beginning of buying groceries for delivery in March, they asked for a 3-packet yeast quantity, but the market didn't have any more packets so they sent 2 jars of yeast. The neighbors don't bake that much so they gave us one. Of course we gave them some bread!
be well... mae
Yum! I have never tried barbecuing cauliflower. We roast it, mash it, rice it, boil it and more but never barbecued it!
ReplyDeleteGrilling caulifower is new to me as well. I really would like to try that. Your meal looks delicious. I am glad you weren't flooded out. The news reported such horrible flooding and I was thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteYes to those yummy Kaiser rolls!
Yum. Those grilled cauliflower sections look delicious.
ReplyDeleteWe've been roasting Brussels sprouts from our garden. I am now imagining the deliciousness of roasted cauliflower.
ReplyDeleteI just cooked the last of my cauliflower and broccoli two nights ago. Had I thought, I would have saved the cauliflower and turned it into steaks when I cook out this Memorial Day. Yours looks wonderful and so do those rolls. I also see real butter, too. The only way to go in my opinion. It all looks good indeed.
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I have a whole unopened cauliflower in the refrigerator and tomorrow is Memorial Day, a traditional day for a cookout!
ReplyDeleteThat chicken looks fabulous! We grilled steelhead the other night and tonight I'm grilling carne asada for tacos. We're lucky to live somewhere that we can grill year-round, although I did that when we lived in Nebraska, too. Even when it was snowing. :)
ReplyDeleteYour meal looks yummy! Grilled chicken is always a winner. I have never had grilled cauliflower but I like it so I will have to try it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
Happy T day Mae.
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfect T day post, Mae. We love food and drink, so this is a great way to celebrate T day. One thing I would suggest is, we just write our names when we link. By adding other (different) words, it may take awhile for others to get to know your name. Again, I loved this post and want a cauliflower steak. Thanks for sharing your barbecue with us for T this nearly Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteHappy T Day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mae, can´t wait for the weather warming up and trying the cauliflower!
ReplyDeleteSounds as if everyone has been having a BBQ this past weekend, I've never had Cauli on the BBQ, my husband does grill Egg plant which is delicious

ReplyDeleteWe missed the down pours of rain over the weekend, flooding sounds horrible in Michigan I heard two dams broke there-so awful to lose everything with something like that. We feel blessed as well
Happy T Kathy
There's nothing better than a BBQ and your food looks so delicious - yum! Take care and Happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious! I'm not a vegetarian, but the cauliflower steaks would suit me fine, as would that lovely outdoor spot. Nice brickwork :) Happy T Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteYumm! That looks really nice. A typical summer BBQ meal. We haven't had the opportunity to cook outside yet (and we're in Spain, it's supposed to be hot!)
ReplyDeleteI had to smile at your Simon & Garfunkel rub. That is a really good way of saying it. I'll remember that one.
Cauliflower steaks are great. I only discovered them last year!
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

ReplyDeleteHappy T-Day! Eileen xx
Oh yum - especially the cauliflower steaks!!! Nothing like that barbecue taste either. Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking barbecue food. I read about that disaster in Michigan: how awful with all of the covid-19 problems going on, to have that happen. Ugh. Happy belated T-Day!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great meal there - we have been enjoying cauliflower lately! We have also had some rain lately, thankfully just enough for the gardens! Belated Happy T Day! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteOOOHH...how was the grilled cauliflower? I'm always looking for different veggies to grill. I hadn't ever thought of cauliflower.
