A few birds in San Jose, Costa Rica

We arrived late last night at the San Jose, Costa Rica, airport, and will be in San Jose, the capital, for a few days before a cruise along the Pacific coast. Today is our day to do nothing... except look at the birds on the property of the hotel. And maybe sit around the swimming pool.

In fact, we are very impressed by the number and variety of birds here, such as a number of raptors, including the white-tailed kite in the above photo.

Hoffmann's woodpecker.
This is a mott-mott -- a colorful tropical bird that seems quite exotic. It was right outside our hotel room this morning.
