We've been birding, walking and sitting on the beach (in the extreme heat!) and having some nice meals. One specialty of the area near the Chesapeake Bay and the DelMarVa peninsula: crab cakes.

Salad with two crabcakes and two shrimp at Cafe Soleil in Washington, D.C.

Here are a couple photos of the birds at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, adding to the ones I posted yesterday:

  2. Lovely photos. We live on the same ocean but in the middle of the Atlantic coast of Florida and it looks so different. One thing we do have in common are crab cakes.

  5. Your photos of the beach make me long for it as we did not get to the beach even once this summer. However, It won't be long until me and Mr. Snowbird take off for the winter in Florida and there we live on the beach! Great shots - looks like a wonderful time

  6. My family is still back in Maryland so whenever we go back we get crabcakes. People from the midwest get a distorted idea of what they should taste like, I think. Looks like a wonderful vacation!

  11. Love crab cakes and I am making them this upcoming weekend for my husband's birthday. I haven't been to the Delaware shore in decades. I grew up outside Philly and we always visited family in Delaware and sometimes went to the Jersey shore. Fond memories.

    Bring on the bird photos!
