My Kitchen, November 2016

In my kitchen are several Texas gifts from our visit last month.
I received a shot glass that says "Don't mess with Texas" --
and photographed both sides of it.
Another gift from our Texas friends: a tile with a different Texas motto.
A Texas tamale-themed pot holder. Also some Michigan
apples and who-knows-from-where avocados in
a bowl Evelyn made long ago.
A Texas magnet, added to the many magnets on my refrigerator.
Inside my pantry -- I've stocked up on lots of things I use often. It's good to be back in my kitchen for a while
after so many trips. You can see my Hellman's mayo, Newman's salsa, McClure's pickles, beans, jam, tuna, and so on.
Costco only sells the DARE Celebration assortment with several packages of
crackers from Halloween until maybe Christmas. So I bought two of them.
Also lots of cereal.

Another Kitchen: At Olga and David's in Austin, Texas.

The outdoor dining table seen from Olga and David's kitchen door.
The kitchen:
Olga checking on what David was cooking -- a delicious rice, vegetable,
and chicken stew for our dinner.
Their front yard (with sign!)
We had a great visit to Austin, including this view of the capitol dome.
And good times in Olga and David's kitchen in October.
I'm sharing this with the bloggers' event "In My Kitchen."

  2. Your texas visit looks really interesting - I would love to go there, esp if I had such a lovely backyard in which to relax and I love your souvenirs - enjoy being back in your own kitchen

  3. I love peeks in to others' kitchen cupboards :) I remember a story years ago about Paul Newman and how he was doing a public appearance for his sauces and someone said to him "is it true you used to be an actor" Ha!

  4. I love that Texas pot holder. I use lots of potholders so they are a great idea to buy as a souvenir. I'm off to Texas next year so your post have given me inspiration.

  5. Wow, Olga & David's looks like a nice place to visit! Now I have that song 'Deep in the heart o fexas' going round and round in my head!

  6. Well, that's weird about only selling the DARE crackers between the holidays. I don't think of crackers as a seasonal food. (For that matter, I don't think of TJ's Peppermint JoJos or Peppermint Stick ice cream as seasonal but apparently everyone else does!)

Fun to take a peek into your cupboards. I might have to do a post like that -- if I dare!

  10. I used to collect fridge magnets - but when we shifted our new fridge is not magnetic! So I have put the ones I have on a filing cabinet which disn't quite the same. Have a great week. Cheers from Carole's Chatter

  13. Mae, everything's bigger in Texas... except maybe for that shot glass. :) Thank goodness for "standard measurements" or we'd all be in trouble! I was amused by your two-sided "shot", as well as the pic of your "home again" pantry. (Yay, Hellman's!) Traveling is a fun adventure, but coming HOME to the familiar (and much-loved) is a blessing. Glad you're back "IMK".

  16. I am so glad you had a good time in Austin, loved the sign on their front yard. I think Austin is quite liberal, not like the rest of TX.

  17. What a busy month. It's always good to be home again and in your own kitchen. I didn't realize the Dare crackers were seasonal, I bought some about a month ago at Costco, perhaps I'll need to stock up and get more before they are gone! Sounds like your visit to Texas went well and you brought home plenty of goodies.
